Brands Hatch Indy 18th March
Discussion
Just returned from a lovely day at Brands. Had a load of fun sliding around the corners and chasing down the Caterhams (only some)
A couple of crashes to two really nice Porsches, 996GT3RS and a classic.
Anyone go on here ?
The jobsworth's miffed me a bit:-
Got told off for filling the car with petrol in the pitlane
Parking in an empty car park watching the Druids Bend
Black flagged for not doing the noise test, no one there wasn't a good enough reason
Asking the 996RS driver if I could buy his pass off him for the afternoon. MSV said to do it but the track bods didn't like it.
Being asked to take it easy at Clearways so not to annoy the neighbours
Having to sign a form to prevent the in car video being made public (fine £25k) WHY?

Filling car with petrol in a live pit lane is a no no at any trackday I have ever been to - It also against the rules when you are racing unless its a race where you can refuel and then you have to have very expensive refueling rigs - not just a petrol can. Noise Test - Briefing makes it clear you have to be noise tested before going out on the track.
Taking it easy through clearways - I assume you were excessively squeeling your tyres and once again it usually says in the terms and conditions that that is also something which will bring the wrath of the man in charge.
Video form is standard for all MSV tracks and not sure why but I think it is to ensure that it protects them against anything they wouldn't want to go out publically however I think if you read it they are only going to sue you if you use it for commercial purposes as there are loads of MSV track videos on you tube.
I am guessing this may have been your first trackday?
I had a great time yesterday and we couldn't have asked for better weather, but I found that the sheer number of stoppages and people breaking down on the track really took the edge off.
3 or 4 of my sessions were 3 laps or less before having to come in. Then we were asked to keep the noise down at Druids as we were setting off the noise meter (green Westfield). I know it's loud, but it was almost muted by some of the other stuff there.
I was then told it was the 3rd time I had been spoken to, when it was the second, and eventually had to reduce revs by about 1,500rpm which meant spending more time watching revs and changing corner mid-gear than driving.
All in all a good day, but it just didn't run smoothly like normal.

Hmmm - Clearly you were all under a bit of scrutiny for noise, for some reason, possible as a result of the Croft decision who knows.
Not sure whether this was a MSV Trackday or another organisation but I have always found that Brands trackdays seems to be a bit stop and start also I have had runs in with "jobsworths" there as well for nothing moments. Then on another day we were going 4 a breast up to paddock hill and no one said a thing.
Must have beem one of those days for you all.
Anyone going to Snetterton on Sunday?

I was there yesterday in the White S1 Exige.
As above, it was superb weather and I had a good day. However, the amount of red flags was unbelievable and easily the largest number I have ever seen.
I spoke to the guy who crashed the old, red Porsche and actually took his place for the day. I believe he got hussled by one of the race cars and lost concentration.
General driving manners were fine yesterday but some of the racecars on slicks always make up their own rules and don't get in trouble for it. Especially when you overtake them and they then have something to prove.

I too was there yesterday.
Apart from the stop starting of the day, I cant see what you have to complain about to be honest.
Quite clearly states no refuling and obv you have to be noise tested. If your car was not nosie tested then either you were late or didnt make much of an effort to track down "noisey bob" and get it tested. In your favour though, the marshalls should not have let you out to begin with to then be black flagged.
The 996 did look pretty bad. I was only a few cars behind it when happened. Must have been a tank slapper from what fresh rubber marks we left down and then into the paddock wall sideays.
Fantastic weather and plenty of good cars and drivers on track.
What were you in? I was in the Grey Lotus 7 repilca with R1 engine.

That exige sounded great coming down the front straight, looked very fast too...Yes, lot's of red flags, especially for such a nice day, and I did feel very sorry for both 911 drivers. Hopefully they get sorted under insurance, as that RS didn't look a cheap fix! Goes to show how important it is to get insurance on track days!
Another well organised day by MSV...

Was there yesterday, had a good day, wasnt driving as both track cars are off the road (well track
) but went out as a passenger in a few cars, gt3 rs accident was unfortunate
also my mates red nova was responsible for one of the stopages but considering his cv joint exploded on the straight it was pretty lucky he saved it from going into the wall, got fixed to drive home then got driven into leaving the circuit
big thanks to guy called richard who took me out in his atom, didnt proclaim to be the best driver, but was very capable combination with the car, and so much more courteous than alot of others, so big thanks if he see's this

I was there too - testing a few Caterham’s for a feature in Track & Race Cars magazine.
The day, albeit pretty busy, had a very fine mixture of cars in attendance and the quality of driving wasn’t bad either.
I could hear the Westy from the back of the garages, so its surprising that they let you continue considering how loud the intake roar was.
The GT3 RS had its ’moment’ right in front of me, one of those over eager right foot without the skill to catch it type tank-slappers - amusing at first, until realising it was going to clout the tyre wall.....bit like the E36 approaching Paddock and ending up on the grass before the apex kerb, that was funny.
Dan, your X-Bow was mighty fast, really able to gauge it when in the silver and carbon Caterham you were following.
