As the topic suggests really - I've tried to apprach a few organisers but they won't accept open cars with no roll protection - sensible I know, but can't get around it. Does anyone allow such cars at a track day.

What sort of car? There are plenty of people running convertibles without roll bars.

I thought as much, I've seen MPEGs and photos (the TVR book) where people are on track days with no roll bar. I want to know where and with what organiser can it be done?

The car is a Dax Tojeiro - AC Cobra replica with Rover V8 engine, and I really, really want to take it on the track, but don't want to fit a roll bar.

Is there any particular reason why you don't want to fit one? Without, you can be reasonably sure that you will die if you roll it. Anyway, from what I've seen of Cobras, it just isn't complete without a big fat chrome rollover bar.

I know of two Cobras/replicas that have rolled in the last two years.

That aside, it's the first time I've heard of people being denied access to a track day for that reason. How many TVRs are out on track every week with no rollover protection?!

I can't fit a roll bar because its my dad's car and he just won't have it - I do agree, roll and die without one.

He is keen to take it out on the track though, so maybe I should start phoning around again - cheers.

BTW - you guys are quick off the mark!

Roll bar costs less than one track day, no brainer IMO. Suggest you ask your dad how much he values his head!

Haven't come across this requirement on track days, but have been on test days where it was a requirement. With TVRs at least you have the minimal protection of the roof and windscreen? (Apparently they can *just about* take the weight of the car if you turn it over carefully! Which is better than nothing I guess. If nothing else, they act as a skid plate!) Having said that you often see TVRs on track with no rollover bar and the top down. The people who have seen a rolled car seem to go very quiet and get a rollover bar asap though. Me included.

Does that include the one that flipped and rolled at around 20mph on the internal road at Gaydon during Supercar Sunday the year before last?

talking of rollbars, Anyone know if you can get one for a Chimaera without the need for shifting the seat forward? I'm already driving with my knees.

Go to Tower View and Peninsulas websites, I'm sure their roll bars don't make you move the seat forward. I'd be more concerned about the top of the bar and how it interacts with the roof 'hoop' and your head. I think both of these guys have ways around this.

I've only encountered a couple of track day companies so far who've wanted a roll car.

Have a look at Easytrack or Bookatrack - both definately don't require them, as ios the same for Trakzone and Javelin (from what I remember).
