It's a 1.8 SRi completely standard...

I really want to have a go at a track day but can't insure (for a reasonable amount) a better more track oriented car at the moment.

So shall I leave it at home and spectate until march next year when my insurance becomes affordable? =p

No not at all....

I once did the RMA Ring event in a 1.5dci Megan.

You'll get annoyed with how un track ready the car is before anyone gets annoyed with you on track.

...unless you drive like an utter cock.

Go... Enjoy...

Saw a diesel Audi A2 going round last time I was at Snetterton, the guy seemed to be thoroughly enjoying himself.

Just drive appropriately.

No

Not as big a tit as those that you overtake!

No way, just go and have a laugh, you will def see way worse than that there. I've seen plenty of proper bangers on track days, including a 2CV and a real knackered ol' vectra on my last one at bedford (which by the way is undoubtedly the best novice track).

Go for it!

I once did a track day on a hideously under powered Astra that wasn't strictly mine, managed to spin it as well! had great fun though.

Just make sure its prepped - minim prep the BRAKES, which means some decent fluid and some fast road pads at least (Ferodo DS2500s are cheap enough and will be up to the job), and make sure your discs aren't a couple of rusted frizbee's. You don't need fancy discs, just some worn in discs which aren't rusted to hell with a big outside lip showing.

It will be so wallowy on track that it may make you sick - seriously, if you suffer from motion sickness then be prepared.

Like he says. My last day there was a muppet in a mid range Civic. It wasn't the car that made him look a tit. It was the queue behind him until he drove into the gravel that made him look a tit.

Just change you brake fluid for something like this: http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-862-silkolene-pro-race...

And enjoy.

Nope - I've done trackdays in a Maestro before, so that's positively race-ready by comparison wink

As others have said: no, you would not look like a tit doing a track day in it.

I saw a diesel version of your car with an enterprise sticker on the back at the last track day I did. And the three guys in it seemed to be having a load of fun.

I would - I took a 1.4 Mk5 Golf around Combe a while ago when my track car failed the noise test, and I had a lot of fun that day! Completely ruined the front left tyre though, but that's another story!

As said, you'll only be a tit if you drive like one. A lot like the guy in a (rented) Toyota Yaris at bedford a few years ago. No one thought anything of it until he put it on the roof on the first lap.
