I know how to use my cooker but it don't make me a chef.

I'm sure anyone who can weld "could" fit one. But I'd go somewhere that knows what they are doing ask SD for a list of their approved fitters.

It's not something you want to be spending "beer money" on fitting... your life WILL depend on it.

Also, if it's road-going, your insurers will need to know about the cage and may require a fitting certificate from a recognised fitter, or at least say that the cage must be fitted by a specialist - worth checking with them.

Depends how far away you're willing to go, we're in Rotherham but that's about 100 miles...

Supposing that a fellow is happy to travel to Rovrum, what do you get for what?

Give this company a ring/email: www.bmsengineering.co.uk

I don't work there, per se, but its where we're building our 205 Rally car, and they specialise in Tube Bending and roll cage manufacture, I'm sure they will be able to sort you out. We're based in Coventry, where exactly in Warwickshire are you? They have a fairly comprehensive clientele in the Motorsport Industry.

(p.s. I hope posting the link is o.k., if this contravenes Forum rules it will be deleted)

The SD cages are all cut to size, ground so angles are fine etc so it really is only a case of welding as such, you don't need a specialist roll cage person who can bend tubes / know how to build a cage, that bit has been done. It really is just welding and with that in mind I'd do nothing more than ask the best welder I could find.

Apologies, meant to add that we're highly competent TIG & MIG welders, its all detailed on the site...

We've done SD bolt in cages for 205's, 106's before, BMW should not prove a problem smile

Ok this isn't quite Wetherspoons beer money, but it's a bank holiday weekend & this isn't much: http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/2867_9841.htm

We build spaceframed rally cars so a bit of welding on a roll cage isn't a problem wink

How much are you willing to pay? I guess you would be looking at 1 - 2 days work plus materials. Do you need to be able to conform to any material/design standards or provide any certification afterwards?

I don't know how much work it's going to take, but 1 - 2 days seems like a reasonable ballpark to me.

We've budgeted for two days to fit our cage. Which is an OMP bolt in so in theory much easier than a weld in SD cage. Not least as it was pointed out to me by numerous companies the fuel tank in pretty damn close to one on the points on an E30. One company wanted to remove the tank, another to fill it with argon. All down to insurance companies requests.

If the car is fully stripped so you can just crack on it's an afternoons work, if it needs bits shifting and taking out then it adds up quickly!
