Bruntingthorpe
Discussion
There is a charity track event held there every year, the date is 2nd August this year, which you could take part in if you are a member of any of the participating clubs http://www.on-your-marks.com/
Bruntingthorpe is used as a proving ground and in some ways more strictly controlled than a track, for instance you carry a radio to keep in touch with the control tower whilst you are there. You have to be more responsible for your own actions and there is no marshalling per se and you need to be aware of other people carrying out different activities at the same time.
There are various configurations of the circuit and for example some of the instructors who work there have their own layouts (laid out in cones) and I think other than manufacturers and magazines using it for testing cars, driving instruction is the other main activity there.

Big Thunder used to regularly run trackdays at Bruntingthorpe. They were stopped running them by the Nimbys, won their appeal, ran a few last year but now it looks like the Nimbys have stopped them again!

yes i am interested in the 2 mile stretch. maybe trackday was not the right word here, i want to dirve there with my own car. not necessarily called a trackday i guess.
is there a website for the vulcan ?
The easiest and cheapest way to get on to the runway would be to go on one of the Vmax events run by Craig. You've just missed the last one (April)is there a website for the vulcan ?

I dont know about anyone else; but Ive only ever driven on half of the runway. Look at this link: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?client=firefox-a&...

The 'circuit' is clockwise and youll join the main runway from the concrete taxiway that youll see at 8 o'clock...

I did a trackday there in 2006, and I believe it was the last one run there before a prolonged noise complaint case began. I think this got resolved in Bruntingthorpe's favour but only after about 2 years of wrangling (heard that before).
I read all this on here I think, but it was a while ago.

This is a good day out, BTW. I've done it in the past - you ferry members of the public round at £5/lap. Sadly it's the same day as the Hethel Sprint this year.I have been round Bruntingthorpe twice in my Porsche 996 turbo doing driving courses.
They don't allow track days on it but there are a number of courses that take you on there. Check out the following
http://www.ridedrive.co.uk/ - Do road driving courses with an hour on track
http://www.drivingdevelopment.co.uk/ - Does limit handling courses, sets out a track in cones but you can also have some fun round the track.
The long straight is extremely good fun to try and get top speeds. I managed to get to 182mph on the straight when I went round.

Bruntingthorpe is Don Palmer's favourite haunt and if you want to experience driving at and over the limit, you can't match his Car Control course for maximum practice time on track and serious 1:1 coaching.

Rob Wilson is the other guru who uses this patch regularly.
How do you get a course with him? Beats me.
