Can anyone recommend a decent intercom system to hire for a weekend suitable for use in a Caterham?

Have a couple of days at Rockingham in August with SWMBO and would like some better quality comms than thigh-squeeze-morse-code.

Autocom currently have a sale on for last year's models.

Or the 150 would probably do what you need

Thanks. Do you know if anyone hires the Autocom units? Bit pricey on top of the trackday just to use for the weekend.

Try Cardo

I have a set of these in my open top car and they clamp to the side of your helmets and work via bluetooth. And i much prefer to the autocom system i have as well!

I have the Starcom 1 digital system with bluetooth hooked up to my X-Bow, which works very well (tested at 130mph and caller could still hear me perfectly!).

I have my ipod plugged in on longer trips, plus earpads pretty comfy.

Only gripe would be length of helmet cable, which could be longer...

Hmmm. That's the second recommendation I've had for the Lidl system. For 8 quid it's worth buying just for the weekend.

i have used the lidl one in the 205 and the caterham. i bought a few sets when they were on sale. i see no reason to spend more money on a system when they work so well!

Three recommendations. Crikey. Looks like that's the one to go for. Now I just need to find the nearest town to me that might be lower class enough to have one of these economy Waitroses. biggrinlaugh

Don't think you can get the Lidl one any more. I got one from Argos for £40. Seems ok but the battery life is rubbish so I need to wire it into the battery (cables supplied).

Also it is quite annoying at high revs as I get a distorted crackle into my headphones. The passenger isn't affected though, so probably more to do with 12000rpm from a race can right next to the passenger's mike smile

Think you might be right. Just got back from the Beckenham branch, having braved it on my own in the Evo without anyone to keep an eye on it in the car park. No intercoms to be seen. Plenty of power inverters and other bits of car related tat, but no intercoms.

Matt, the intercoms were in Lidl several months ago, on a one week only offer with many other motor cycle bits. I bought two of them, and they are brilliant, and can be used in both open face & full face helmets. Just keep watching Lidl's website because I'm sure they'll be on offer again soon. If I see anything, I'll let you know,

Hope you are well, best regards, Howard

I got a full 2 helmet autocom system (last years model) for £100 last month - when i get home I'll dig out the webby and stick it up. Its been brilliant. Need to get a windsock for the mrs' helmet mike as it keeps keying (she has a helmet that the whole front lifts up on so there is some wind leakage), but very well made, easy to fit and robust - mp3 player, phone and satnav can be plugged in too.

£100 is a bit much for a couple of days use.
