Hi,

If a tyre has been professionally repaired from a puncture, is it ok to use on track?

These are normally perfectly fine for the road, but would the high demands on track day be too much for the repair?

i'm sure there's no mechanical reason why you shouldn't but I certainly never would - is it really worth it? for the sake of a couple of hundred quid - especially if you're on-track uninsured - you'd never forgive yourself if it did let go.

Interesting question that. Not something I've considered before. Have always checked my tyres are in reasonable condition and correct pressure before going on track, but nothing beyond that.

Would depend where the repair was, on which tyre and what car for me. Can punctured sidewalls be repaired? As that is the area that takes most punishment on track I believe. Would certainly think twice about using a tyre repaired there. Repair in the centre of the tread probably not, but if the car is a tyre shredding monster that may be different.

One of my rear tyres has a small repair in the centre of the tread where a screw penetrated causing a very slow puncture. I've already had it on track since the repair (without even considering it tbh, as I stated already!). Thinking about it now I'm quite happy as the rear tyres have a relatively easy life on my car - Clio 172 Cup (FWD, lightweight, rear wheels and brakes just along for the ride in some respects).

Besides I'm fairly certain that the screw was in the tyre for the duration of a trip hooning round N. Wales and the Isle of Man! That is slightly more concerning when I think about it now hehe

Interesting stuff chaps. The tyres that the OP mentioned are for a Rover Coupe Turbo which is relatively light. Was thinking of putting them on the rears as suggested.
Perhaps we should ask where the punture was.

thanks.

won't give it a second thought, as long as it holds air, no problem.

I've just had one of my r888s repaired from a screw puncture. It still has about 1.5mm over the wear bars so I don't want to ditch it.

I'm going to keep it for hooning days (airfield based handling, donut practice and the like) that we do with my owners club rather than full on trackdays. The thought of a tyre failure at high speed doesn't really fill me with confidence.

done it many times but if it was near or on the sidewall throw it away adn too much flex to be safe
