I'd like to buy some gloves for Go Karting and track days, budget of upto £50 (or more if needs be). So long as they're good quality and comfortable then that's great.

Any recommendations?

Hi, I have the sparco ones from Demon tweeks, do what they say on the tin. Id buy a size bigger than the measurement guide as mine are ok but tight.

Thanks. I was planning a trip to Merlin Motorsports at Castle Combe to try before I buy. Will have a look at the Sparco range (I think they do them)

You will idealy need different gloves for Go Karting & Track days. Track Day / Motorsport gloves are Nomex / fire resistant wheras Go Kart gloves are more abrasion resistant / waterproof and offer greate palm cushioning and grip.

Ah, so would karting gloves be in any way unsuitable for trackdays (lets ignore motorsport for now). I guess any additional padding might reduce the amount of 'feel'?

I would say that Kart Gloves are essential wheras gloves for track days very much optional. So I would get some kart gloves and try them in the car and see how you get on. You will probably, as you describe find that you loose some feel and they may be a bit hot.

Sparco are very good, I have used these for karting for the last 4 years and last well too, also use them now in the Elise for the rare visits to the track.

Mine are now discontinued but the new model is same kind of thing: http://www.gprdirect.com/OnlineShop/Product.do?c=2...

Might be worth trying the ones above too, main problem is size tho, I got mine in the GPR shop, as tried about 3 sizes to get it right.

I would suggest you go to merlin and try on the options and then make your decision. Any of the basic gloves will "feel" good in a car, but the more expensive ones will be more fire-proof and more comfortable for long distance (seams on the outside not pressing into your skin etc). I personally like gloves with very thin palms as I subjectively prefer the level of feeling through the steering wheel, whereas my father has thicker gloves which offer a bit more comfort.

I found the sizing guide on the demon tweeks website worked well for me, but there are many different measurements that might make one size better than others so if in doubt try some on.

I use karting gloves driving the Radical. Mostly though, because I had them from karting!

Keen to try some other gloves though.

I've always used my old kart gloves for track days. Really help grip on hard steering wheel surfaces and cut down on blisters if you have heavy steering and a wooden steering wheel!

They should be acceptable for club level competition too - certainly for sprinting gloves are unregulated (I think).

I did the mistake of buying yellow, but means you look like an idiot !

At the time it matched our Kart - Oh dear now I am sad!

I have a pair of Sparco Kart gloves that I picked up at the Autosport show a couple of years back for less than 30 quid. Actually got them for the 4 or 5 karting events a year that I was doing, but they have been excellent for track days too. I would say though that this is another of those things to try on when you buy if at all possible.
