Hi!

I have an Mitsubishi Evo 6 and I'm starting to get involved in track days. I have been looking on www.racetyres.com and have found some Kumho ECSTA V70A that from the specifications look ideal. With the Evo being the car that I use during the day as well, I need a set of tyres that are good in the wet. Does anyone know how they handle in such circumstances?

Cheers

Haven't experienced the Kumho ECSTA V70A personally, but judging from the tread pattern it should be reasonable in the wet. Obviously as the number of treads are less than road tyres, you may find their ability to clear water isn't as good...

Happy to stand corrected, as always! smile

After using Toho T1R,s on the track and switching last week to Triple 8's, I could not believe the difference.
Buy a cheap set of S/H wheels and have a dedicated set of track tyres.
If you do a reasonable amount of T/D's it will probably be cheaper in the end!

I agree. I've started using 888s, and they're really good. They're also road legal, and OK in the wet if you take it easy, particularly around standing water.

Don't the 888's work better on lighter cars? The Kumho's have a stiffer sidewall that may be better suited to heavy car like an EVO.

There's a thread somewhere stating that 'they' are going to make TD tyres illegal. I'll see if I can find it. stand by...

depends how fast you drive, the 888 go off very quickly. bear this in mind. in fact the 888 go off just after the yokohama a048 come in.
888 are ideal for sprints, 1/4 etc but lap after lap they are not the best
Id advise a048

I would agree 100% with this; for trackdays the A048 is the better tyre. I use 888s for sprinting normally, A048s for trackdays.

I've had 888's on a westfield for about 2 years and they're brilliant in the dry, but if you're using the car all the time don't go near them, when it's cold or wet they're terrible....I think you need to compromise!!!

Had my first outing on triple 8's last week.
They were S/H & 3/4 worn on a 1 ton TVR, they were fantastic and never went "off" all day, stuck like ..... to the proverbial blanket!

See: www.mrtyremotorsport.co.uk

The Dunlop Direzza 03 is very durable, consistent and more effective than many track day tyres in the damp.
