Any track days at the Nordschleife other than RMA?
Discussion
Not that I have anything against RMA, but their sole event at the Ring is in November and is a 2 day £795 affair.
Wondered if there was anybody organising one sooner and cheaper, i.e. option of one day only?
Touristernfahrten is getting stupidly overcrowded nowadays and there are too many stoppages (often due to bikes).
Plus the amount they charge now, you may as well wait for a track day!

Thanks, some sensible (i.e. not already in the past!) suggestions there.http://www.pistenclub.de/Termine/tabid/54/language...
I know the guys at RSR so should have thought of them myself...

I've had some tuition from Carolyn so I can assume that it will be very well run and you'll get the opportunity to enjoy the track a lot more than on a TF day. My first genuinly quick lap was with Carolyn in her old E36 M3 ... she's partially to blame for all the money I've 'invested' in track days and the Ring since then;)oola said:

I am going on the 21st, staying over (they're doing a BBQ that night), then all day playing on the 22nd before cruising home.
If anybody wants to come along, drop me a message!

The problem with pretty much all European organised track days (like that one) is they require third party insurance which is effectively unavailable for UK cars.I am going on the 21st, staying over (they're doing a BBQ that night), then all day playing on the 22nd before cruising home.

The organisers have just told me my road insurance will be fine.
What do you interpret "third party insurance" as being?
I believe the reality (even for the companies that specifically exclude the Nordschleife) is that when crash turns to crunch they cannot wriggle out of their third party liabilities but can then pursue the policyholder to recover their costs.
Not a great scenario admittedly...

Well its a track day - my normal road insurance excludes cover for track days. The only track day cover I have seen in the UK, even that attached to a normal road policy, is first party only and excludes third party cover. What do you interpret "third party insurance" as being?

Hence the problem: normal insurance with 3rd party excludes trackdays; track day cover excludes third party.
This is entirely secondary to whether its at the Nordschleife and any insurance issues that may bring.
However, if they say your normal road policy is fine then thats great news.

This is what the organiser emailed me "Hi David, in Germany there is nö difference between Touristenfahrten and a trackday like ours... The insurance won't pay if there is a official timing or a race. Everything up to driftbox use is okay."
Cool!
Hmm will your insurer agree I wonder? There is no timing permitted on UK track days but they still don't provide third party cover. Cool!

That sounds fine then. Go for it
The reality is that most UK road insurance policies offer NO cover for driving on the Nordschleife during TF; most uk road insurance policies offer NO cover for trackdays, and; most UK insurance policies that do cover trackdays offer NO third party cover whilst attending trackdays. The situation in Germany is quite different to the UK, so you cannot rely on what is 'fine' for a German being 'fine' for you with your UK road insurance policy.
I believe that it is a legal requirement to have third party cover for driving at all times in Germany, even on trackdays, so it will be included in a German policy. To go there without being 100% sure that you absolutely, definitely have that cover is both naive and irresponsible. It is also irresponsible of the organisers to allow you on track without at least pointing this out to you.
