One step backwards - two steps forward
Discussion
Last week I did a TD with Goldtrack @ Silverstone on the GP circuit. During the second session I suffered oil starvation and ran a bearing dry, game over. The car in question is an e36 M3 3.0ltr. I have a spare motor waiting in the wings but was unable to get it fitted in time to do a TD @ Goodwood today, the solution? I bought an e36 325i saloon of ebay for and £420, and the outcome? I had to make more of an effort than ever to be smooth and tidy and was less able to lean on the outright ability of the car (the M3 is on slicks) and as a result was well pleased with my performance. To give you some idea there was another participant there in a V10 Audi S8 and although to be fair, it was his first ever track day, we had a little dice and I just had the edge (in the bends, he was catching me on the straights, no surprise that) To sum up, I feel I was forced to hone my skill due to the machinery not being up to the level to which I have become accustomed and came away from the day really feeling like I had accomplished something

Wayne,
Often the case. I had a similar experience. I was due to do a 6hr VLN race on the Nordschleife, had only really driven the circuit before in a track spec car or the race car in quali (slicks). The car blew its turbo on lap 1, we had no spare so I didnt get to race. Wasn't planning to do any TF driving but as I felt a bit cheated of driving time I took my car on the circuit that evening (Golf Plus 1.4 diesel) and did half a dozen laps. I enjoyed it so much I went back for the full TF day on the Sunday and blew a 25 lap ticket and a few more, learnt more [about driving the ring) in those laps than I would ever do in a track/race car.
