As a new kid on the block is anyone going to Oulton Park on the 1st this Saturday.

I would welcome some guidance and help. Focused Events are running it and were helpful when I booked it as instructors are £25 which I took for a session but would welcome hints like tyre pressure etc.

I'll be there with my 325i out on track for the first time so expecting a few teathing problems. Looks like we're due a washout with the weather anyway.

What car are you bringing? I've got several mates coming with us:
-blue E36 M3 (stripped and caged)
-red Locust with a 230bhp Zetec (dam fast!)
-yellow Tiger 7 with 180bhp Vauxhall red top
-blue MK1 MR2 (stripped out but largely standard)
-with E30 Kumho race car (217bhp and driven by a very talented driver)
-dark blue E30 325i (track prepped)
-maybe another E30 with us

Come over and say hello, I'll be in this:

Supposed to be a 500+ bhp caddy van doing this, twin engined!driving

Weather is due to be not great (at the moment),but long as we all stay on the black stuff,we should get good track time.

Excellant news to hear a lot of people going. I have a mitsubishi FTO but its front wheel drive so might either get in with my mates EVO as additional driver. Has or does anyone use an FTO for trackdays, it was only a couple of grand with a 2.0 Litre V6 and tiptronic so a bit of fun good for about 140 mph bit dodgy in the corners though. Weather doesn't bother me as I use Focused for my bike days and used to a bit of sliding. I actually think its better but being a bit of a car beginner just trying to get in with it.. If anyone has ideas for a cheap track car or recommendations.

It doesn't really matter what the car is, virtually anything can be enjoyed on a track day - I would imagine a Mitsubishi FTO would be quite good. I'd recommend you getting some instruction though; being a biker has pro's and cons when transitioning to cars. You'll no doubt have some respect for the conditions and some finesse in control inputs, but you'll find that braking, turning, power application and other elements are quite different.

Cheap track day cars: My own preference would be something with rear wheel drive. What kind of budget? A e30 or e36 BMW (doesn't have to be an M3, 325i, 329i and even 318i's are quick enough) can be put on the track from under £1000; a nice early 90's MX5 (90 - 93) is a great track car (you want a 1.6 Unos - it has an LSD) for from around £1500. RWD is more difficult to control on the limit, but more rewarding and usually more fun; and you will learn more about car control.

You won't get the rush of a bike's straight line performance from a car (well not unless you spend a lot of money!!! wink), it's more about later braking and carrying speed into and through the corners. But you will very likely get around the lap quicker than your bike would, even in some relatively slow cars.

That CSL was flying Shane, wet or dry it was one of the quickest cars out there today.

I was happy to get through the day without any problems as it was my first time on track in my E36. Would have been better if it had stopped raining as I had to use my road tyres that were probably past their best. Had to rig up an electric fan cable tied to the dash to stop things misting up, really must get a heated screen!

Was my first time out in my csl, so i was more than happy with my progress.
My brother was in the grey e30 325i coupe f reg. He has same problem as you, re the fan situation/misting up.
He was going quite well in that also.
All in it was a great day.

Did he get black flagged at the end of the day? I saw him do a couple of drifts but everything was under control and not close to other cars.

Will deffo be booking with F.E. again.
