Coombe Trackday video....

Have a watch of this. Now the Evos have a few spins but nothing too "silly" compared to some stuff I've seen there.
However I can't help thinking the Fiesta didn't take any notice of some yellow flags/the traffic light thats at the corner.

Was making me cringe every time a car entered that bend with another behind it, expecting the spin and resulting collision!
Are Evos' really that snappy and difficult to control? Or were the drivers just erring heavily on the side of safety? I can see why the drivers might have opted not to steer into the slide and try to hold it as it is at least safer spinning towards the in-field than getting it wrong and pointing it towards the outside barrier via the wet grass! (As that poor Golf did

That was me in the white Evo 10, nearly hitting the wall, that is the most slippery I have ever encountered at Combe. I got it sideways at Avon Rise and had to square it before braking. Close thing though !
I had a big "Noooooooook he stopped it" watching you do that on the vid. I saw an evo a few years ago on an action day just go head on into the wall and I thought you were about to do a replay! What is that abomination at 1:34?? Dreadful.
Also how are these cars spinning?! Most of them just seem to enter the corner (not fast or hard by the looks of things) and.. weeeeeeee slowly but surely you're going in reverse. Most of it looks like trailling throttle oversteer (e.g. at 2:00), possibly exacerbated by getting on the power again, which is a bit of a surprise because I'd have thought an Evo even in experienced hands would be relatively easy to keep in a straight line..

And I just reached the end...
Watching the Golf Mk2 AND Fiesta XR get destroyed together was very hard.
tragic
Again very surprised to see the back step out on a Mk2 there - I thought a Golf was known as a very non-oversteery car that would mostly just plow on with understeer? Perhaps it was partly due to mixed tyres, worn/modified suspension or something?
I remain bemused.

Plenty of lift off oversteer in MK2 Golfs.Watching the Golf Mk2 AND Fiesta XR get destroyed together was very hard.

As he started to spin I was saying out loud "keep steering right mate or you're going int the barriers... Don't correct it, Steer right, STEER RIGHT!!!!" - crash.
At Combe if the back steps out in the wet just keep steering right and spin into the infield otherwise you'll end up in the barrier.

Another CCC action video listed on Youtube was this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEYcFAEA1CQ&fea...
What went wrong with the TVR there then? Anyone from PH involved? Poor Saxo.

I have done many days at Castle Combe, to un-bemuse you. The surface was far more slippery than I had ever encountered before. Following a heavy rubbering in, it had rained and was really nasty. It didn't show on the video, it looked just damp. But it was like ice to drive on. All the cars were having trouble.Watching the Golf Mk2 AND Fiesta XR get destroyed together was very hard.

Why is it Castle Combe Action Days have a reputation?
This reminds me, I phoned Greenlight insurance a couple of weeks ago to amend my policy, whilst on the phone I asked about their track day insurance. They said they would insure cars for trackdays anywhere in the UK, except Castle Combe. Apparently they just had too many claims from accidents there.Gassing Station | Track Days | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
