BARKSTON HEATH...Opinions sought??
Discussion
Hi everyone. Our Stuart Taylor Phoenix Fireblade build is nearing completion and we are looking for a suitable venue for a "shakedown" session.
We have previously been to Elvington but we are concerned about the uneven track surface, particularly around the long top right hander. Our suspension settings are a bit of a stab in the dark and we have somewhat limited wheel travel.
The abrasiveness of the surface is no great problem and our prior experience of Javelin has been very good.
As quick as the car should eventually be we don't want to get in the way while we are just testing.
Which brings me to Barkston Heath. There would seem to be THREE "circuits", for want of a better name. One primarily for "drifting", although sideways antics are not compulsory, one is more like a sprint course and the last an open area of tarmac for tyresmoking etc.
You have to queue up after each run.
A plus point is a higher noise limit.
So how much queueing up is involved in a typical day?
How many "runs" can one expect?
The venue itself is nearer for us and much cheaper. I'm no miser but I don't relish parting with £150 for a full day only to find an unforeseen problem with our as yet untested car.
Please post your experiences of Barkston to help us decide.
Full day Barkston or possibly Half day Elvington??
Thankyou, Geoff.

Geoff,
I've been there a number of times, on the Javelin days and use it for driving training. No fears about waiting a long time in queues, for the drift area depaends on how many cars but rarely seen more than 1-2 others apart from mine and often no one but us. The Slalom course is more popular but they run it very well and even if you have 6-7 cars queueing it's about 5 minutes. I didnt do anything serrious on the sprint course but seemed very quite, bit narrow but smoth tarmac.
Slalom and Drift area are a little rough in parts but nothing too bad, is a very good workout for man & machine.
