Yes that's true. If they exceed the alloted noise limit in a set time period (I believe spaces of 30 minutes) then all cars are pulled off the track for a while. They have drive bys and monitor noise carefully, but will warn you if getting near the limit. They try not to chuck you off, but to help you stay on and just adjust your driving style to stay within the drive by.

ETA: if you have just shift lights and not a revometer (like on a radical), they don't seem to know what the lights mean (unlike CC).

When we were last there on a 105 day a 360 was black flagged for dropping a gear going past the pits. Don't these things have a bypass in the exhaust that opens at certain revs. Anyway, I happened just to be watching at that point rather than driving and the marshalls just gave him the keep it down signals and a gentle talking to.
They really do want to keep you going where they can. As has been said though, with 5 cars on track it can be like having the circuit to yourself......it can also mean sitting in the pit lane for a long time!
The circuit itself though makes up for it IMHO.

Sorry, this isn't correct. An engine under LOAD will generate a lot more induction noise than an engine not under load, i.e. a static test. Passing the static test is absolutely no gurantee of passing the drive by test. Caterhams are notorious for passing one and failing the other one, when used without airboxes...With a conventional car if you pass static you will have no trouble with the drive by.

PS FE started life as a BIKE t/day company and have recently expanded to the car market. I think this is clearly just an error on their website. You could of course just do a Russ Swift and go round on 2 wheels?


Julian , with an rs ,cant remember what cans ur running , get it really hot before testing and keep ur foot on the clutch , bring up revs very gently ........................i ve been sent out round the lanes from Goodwood , by the testers ........theyre pretty reasonable ..........5 car day = 105 db as already stated ..................the rs will fly thru the drive by, dont worry as stated the static is totally different

Just read the other thread on this Julian i never used FE , dont know ho they are ...................if u get on first on a 25 car day u can get 3/4 in the morning and 3 in the afternoon...............15 min sessions etc ................just have toi be prepared for chatting to ur Mates etc in between..............frankly no place better on a sunny summers day and the bacon sarnies are the best !
