Took my Ford GT40 replica to Castle Combe track day today but failed the mandatory static noise limit of 100db. Apparently my car recorded 112db at 4500 rpm and this is with Merlin track day mufflers fitted to the tailpiipes. I do not know how reliable the noise testing is at Castlle Combe as I have done a few trackdays at Silverstone without any noise issues where the limit is 105db.

They seem to have been at least consistent with my car, turning out 88dB reading boths times.

Shame as it was a good day, don't blame Castle Combe circuit though, blame the miserable s who keep complaining for no reason.

Remember Silverstone is an International circuit, compared to an F1/LMES car 112dB is nothing, 105 dB is probably just an abitary limit to keep 'elf n safety' happy that they probably don't properly enforce.

Hi Sibbat,

Sorry you failed the noise test. Both our cars (on hire for the day) passed at the expected levels of 91dB for the Elise and 96dB for the Cat which is about right. I doubt the Combe test set up is incorrect. I was at the Avon Bridge when you went through the noise test and it did sound very loud. If you got through at Silverstone at 105dB I think I would check the exhaust packing. It's possible the silencers need a re-pack.

Sorry not to have met up with you but the GT40 looked the bis. I looked out for you later on but I think you must have already left the circuit.
