Do many people tape over number plates on track days? I've seen some people do this before, but wondered if they were in the minority? Thinking about doing this on my next outing.

There seems to be a trend that it is the more expensive cars that do this.. People that are worried about their car being photographed on track.

Personally we don't do it on the Caterham, but we do often take the plates off as the front one seems to cause lift at higher speeds and the back one has fallen off before.

Maybe it's if they have an 'Off' there is no photo record of it on track

So then claim on the insurance as a 'Road accident'

I was under the impression that front plates reduced lift on 7 style cars because they reduce airflow underneath....

You're right - I worded that badly - the back one was un-related to the front one...

Also - people with warranties still on their cars. I used to have a Subaru and there were even tales of Suabru UK sending spotters out to popular scoobie trackdays just to note down reg plates of cars seen on the track whilst still in warranty

...people bunking a day off work....people with people they shouldn't/don't want to be seen with....insurance issues....warranty issues.....not my car issues....all sorts of reasons why people tape up their plates.

Mine are taped so they dont set off the ANPR cameras in police cars while trailering an uninsured/taxed car.
