I don't think Brands Hatch is too bad for run-off areas. What makes you think you'll need them?

not really south or a test track as such, but doubt you ever beat Bedford Autodrome for run off space

Snetterton has mahoosive run-off areas, really good place to start track days and practice in a new car. I've done 5 track days there over the years and only fell off once, but just ended up in a field, no damage what-so-ever.
It's a fun track too, especially the Bomb Hole, major fun when you get it right at full tilt, passengers don't always agree though!

Bedford. Job done. Not only are the run off areas big, but there's nothing really in the way of gradients or cambers to complicate things if you're, er, in need of a lot of run off.

Snetterton does have big run offs, but they are grass so if it's wet you'll quickly get across them unless you find the corn field smile I'll echo what others have said and suggest Bedford, but Silverstone is good too with the gravel traps and tarmac runoffs, and Thruxton isn't bad either as long as you don't crash in turn 1.

Give Nat or Ed a ring at Motorsport Events, they use airfields around Bath, Oxford and Chippenham.

Thought the Op wanted a Track day, not a drive around cones day smile

No, thats not what he asked, re-read?

Andy Walsh Car Limits etc is a good experience, but costly.
If you find an airfield day with Motorsport Events using Hullavington, they set out a dedicated area where you can explore the car.
One at a time, chicanes, slalom or whatever you fancy in perfect safety.
Sounds ideal if you want to play slideways or at the limit.
It's the only event location they offer this IIRC, but at about £100 is a heck of a lot cheaper than Car Limits.
This obviously includes open pit 'track' time all day too.

How about:

Activity day, you have to take your turn with 20 other cars but they are usually less than £50. Cheap way to find out what Andy is about.

Another vote for Bedford in terms of run-off areas.

Snetterton is ok for the most part but Coram is off-camber and can catch out the unwary.

Last time I was at Keevil with MSE they used a separate area at the far end of the main runway for exploring the car so there's another option.

If it's some none-too-intimidating track time the OP wants to push a car up too and beyond the limits I'd recommend at track day at Keevil with MSE and to book an hours tuition. It was my first track experience, MSE run a good day encouraging enthusiastic but gentlemanly driving and have a word with anyone going OTT. Keevil is a fairly simple layout with a decent surface and mix of slower and faster corners. There's virtually nothing trackside to run in to if you fall off the tarmac bar acres of airfield grass. Can be hard on brakes though with a couple of biggish stops per lap.

I have been to Keevil a few times and not noticed foggy.
Thanks for the heads up I'll ask Nat and Ed next time around.

After the ice thaws of course.

Merry Christmas!

I've only done Keevil twice myself, and then I only saw them using the 'play area' for a couple of short periods on one day - a couple of TVRs making the most of the freedom to explore the limits of car and driver. They did mention it was available in the briefing at the start of the day IIRC.

Recognise you from s2ki, I'm ColinG on there.

ETA - if my country lane is anything to go by I reckon an icy/slushy airfield to play on in an S2k would be an absolute laugh at the moment!

Silverstone or Bedford Autodrome, or an airfield.

Not Brands Hatch or Castle Combe.

They run trackdays at loads of airfields around the south. Some of the surfaces are pretty good. None have potholes!
