north west trackday newbie requires advice?
Discussion
Hi everybody, i have an e36 m3 and would like to do some trackdays (for first time) this year possibly starting in march/april depending on funds...i did take a look around some popular providers but only seemed to find full day sessions for my local track which is oulton. Personally it seems that a full days session may be a little to much for my first event? also is there anything i should know about in relation to my car apart from the obvious roadworthiness/petrol/water-oil etc to prepare me for the big day? Also, anyone done anglesey? Whats the plan with helmets?
regards, Andrew.
regards, Andrew.

Get well soon!
Oulton is one of the best tracks, but I would have thought that provided that you intend to use the first few sessions to feel your way about the place then a full day, with some tuition, would not be too much. More than likely you will leave wanting more.
As for the car; remove any rubbish from the interior and empty the boot; replace the brake fluid and consider upgrading the pads. Take a pump to adjust your tyre pressures and some tape for your lights.
Talk and listen to other participants and try to follow similarly powered cars to learn the lines

Hi Andrew,
There are other alternatives for your first attempt.
1 Anglesey circuit have launched a new course for just this situation.
See www.angleseycircuit.co.uk Click/activities/performance driving/advanced driving courses/car handling and circuit driving course.
2 Also see www.thetrackdayclub.co.uk They offer a Lotus Elise with instructor on a shared hire basis.
In both cases you use their cars and instructors on an inclusive cost basis which for a first time is worth considering.
Just food for thought,
Good Luck,
Tony

Oulton is my local track and I have the same car as you. Go there and you will be hooked. You do see some TDOs offering morning or afternoon, personally I would wade in with a all dayer. you won't be on the track all day but you have more chance of finding a bit of quite time. helps if the weather is iffy too as you don't have you day entirely ruined by a couple of hours rain (or a long stoppage)
TDOs will usually hire you a helmet but I already had my own
M3 is a bit big for the tighter bits of Anglesey (I did coastal layout which I think is best compromise) but also worth the trek
I won't get to Oulton for a while yet, current paln is maybe Bedford at Easter, then Brands in May
