Hi guys,

I have a bit of a question which I realise won't really have a definitive answer.

I have a set of Pagid RS29 pads which I put in my car for trackdays.
I've just looked at them, and the pads have approximately 6.5mm of material left on them.

I'm now wondering will this be enough for another trackday?

Now I appreciate that there are lots of variables with a question like this. How efficiently do you brake, how many laps do you do etc?

I just wondered if people who use a pad like Pagid RS29's on cars a similar weight to my M3 knew roughly how much each trackday wore down their pads.

These pads have done two trackdays, but I also used them as my road pad on my old M3. So unfortunately I have no real record of the wear per trackday.
I don't want to use them if they're going to wear down to the backing plate obviously, but on the flip side I don't want to not use a set of (very expensive) pads that would have been ok.

All opinions welcome.

You should be fine, if there are 6.5mm left. I normaly get 4-6 days from a set of RS29.

Based on my rate of use of RS4-2s in a similar (ish) weight 993 I would say you have another 2 or 3 days use there.

you have max another 40 miles x 6.5mm = 260 track miles all being equal

These pads seem to last forever in my 968CS, they are expensive but good value when you cnsider how long they last and how effective they are on track.

of course it does depend on your track mileage and how hard you brake! some only seem to complete under 100 miles on a trackday, if you are a bit more hardcore then over 200 is what you might aim for and if you brake hard as well those pads ought to get you through 2 more days. Gentler use perhaps 3 or 4 days -- RS29 are an endurance pad after all.

just watch out for glazing issues on the discs, cooling down laps very helpful in preventing such probs

ps have your next pads with you anyway, and if the old ones wear out quicker than expected it does not take long to swap the new ones in

The Pagids have brass retention pins attatched to the backing plate. When they show through the pad material it is time to change. Once you reach this point you are into the interlayer section of the pad material and the performance drops off significantly.

What wears the pads more - hard braking for a short time, or long soft braking? I'd have thought the latter...

Definitely the latter.

nopt sure that is right

def the latter gives you more heat build up in the brakes, but i would have thought wear difference would have been negligible
