Suction Camera mount during TD's... Questions....
Discussion
Im considering a Go Pro HD Motorsport as it seems like a good out the box camera.

Am I correct in thinking that most TD organisers would allow external suction mounted cameras however they would need additional securing? If this is the case how do people go about securing such a mount incase the suction fails?
Or have I got this wrong and external cameras are a no no.
Lastly, have I missed a better camera (ideally HD) that I should be looking at?

I've got a GoPro HD and it's a nice bit of kit.
I think most circuits would allow external cameras as you describe, it's mostly the chance of them coming off internally and hitting you that they are worried about. If they are not happy with the suction mount then you could try the sticky mounts that come with the kit although you would want to leave them on permanently so it may depend on whether the car is too posh/road for that.

My involvement with suction mounts on cars for cameras comes from use of ANPR cameras on police vehicles, when vehicle mounted systems were rare. There was a heavy duty suction mount that as well as the vacuum had a magnetic element. However the manufacturer only guaranteed the use of this mount up to 50mph.
You will be pleased to know that they were banned from mobile use (in the area where i was concerned with them). They had to be detached when moving, as the umbilical was then all that retained the camera.
If after the advice from your track experts above you are still considering these mounts then please for everyone's sake

More TD companies are cracking down on cameras now. From memory, MSV don't allow suction mounts at all. I doubt you'll get away with an external mount unless it's a bullet cam, and even then i wouldn't count on it.

I mailed MSV yesterday, and whilst the guy openly agreed that the Hague suction mount I had was likely to be more than up to the task of carrying a camera, they have a blanket exclusion to eliminate any arguements, subjectivity and confusion with what is and isn't acceptable ..... Blame the d
