can anyone shed light on a rummer thats doing the rounds??? toyo 888 and yoko 48s/32s and in fact all semi slick type track day tyres are going to be outlawed by the wonderfull E.U because they do not meet the noise and aquaplane rules and therefore will be banned from highway use from july 2012. I run toyos on my westy and have had no problems even when its been persisting down . And has this any relivance of why there has been such a price hike ot these tyres????.

Doesn't stop you using them on track, so you'll just have to have a road set and a track set.

I'm guessing that this would be a bit easier in my old e34 than in your Westy though wink

Toyo price rises are due to toyo being arses.

New tyre regs will rule out the continuing sale of current R rated tyres. From what I've read, all it means is that tyres will have to provide certain mimimum grip levels in both wet and dry conditions. I can't see many changes being required to make various manufacturers' R compound tyres legal post 2012. I presume the R1R is designed with this in mind.

Toyo prices have indeed rocketed! Im thinking of using the Kumho V70 instead for the first time. Ive used the 888 for years but cant justify the cost anymore.

Wasn't a huge differance in price compared to the best Toyo deal I got, (Bridge Tyres).

I stuck with the Toyo's in the end.

Have you a contact number for Bridge?

Camskill 888's were £188 and V70 £125. I reckon £60 a tyre is too much. I was paying MUCH less for 888's last year.

V70 has some very good feedback on tyre reviews

A048R's worked out cheaper than either Toyos or Kumho for me - £340 fitted smile (185/55/14)
