Hi all,

I am knew on this forum. I am off to Nurburging for the third time on May bank holiday and am wanting to pick up a helmet. I'll be driving a car not a bike, so dont need anything too serious.

I live in South Cheshire, I know of Demon Tweeks over in Wrexham, just wondering if anybody new of anywhere in Cheshire/Manchester that has a good selection of helmets?

Cheers,

Marc

Try a bike shop. They have cheap helmets for people whose heads aren't worth much as well as proper ones wink

J&S in Northwich? EU regulations mean that helmets for road use are now tested to the inferior ECE standard, but if you buy a Shoei or Arai itll still be a BS6658-A standard quality helmet. If youre planning to do something more with the helmet in the future than a BS6658-A / Fr, or a Snell2005 helmet will be more useful.

Having looked it appears that they days of cheap Arai and Shoei from J&S have passed. Id look at a V2 or a Hedtek then. £130, Snell2005 with a fireproof lining: not my cup of tea but theyll keep scrutineers happy...

As GC8 said it sounds like hedtek are right up your street. http://www.hedtec.co.uk/

Otherwise the nearest bike shop with lots of helmets. Set you budget and pick the one that fits best in that. That's what I did.

Not always. Rule of thumb I'd suggest if the car has no roof, you need a full face helmet.

Would people recomend going for an open or closed helmet? My car isnt open, so no problems there. Just interested in saftey and comfort, plus any other things I havent considered.

I did read a thread on here a while ago, and I remember the general consensus was open were easier to get used to?

The most important thing is that you get one that fits properly. Go to a bike shop and try them all on. It's just a bit depressing when you find out as I did, that the only ones that fit right are Arai or Dainese. That was an expensive day I can tell you! Still worth it though as they don't pinch my face making it look like I'm doing an impression of a cat's ahole like my old pikey helmet did.

If youre confident that nothing can hit you in the face, then get an open helmet. Im not so I stick with a full face helmet and a visor.
