My chim hits about 110db at thenmagic revs for the noise tests, are there any tracks that will allow the car on them? Goodwoods limit was 98db and apparently the bolt on silencers will only laugh it at as it peaked at 120db. Cheers

You are in trouble....

there are currently no "noisy" track days....

All tracks have now adopted a <105db static policy (measured at 3/4 of the rev range with a mic at 45 degrees and 50cm away from the exhaust tip).

I sympathise. I sold my Tiv largely because even on a standard exhaust I was pushing it on most track days.

I dont know if you have seen but Club MSV are introducing "noisy events" with limited numbers on circuit - http://www.clubmsv.com/car-home/event-details.aspx...

Probably cost more though won't they? On the noisy days at Goodwood, they only allow 4 cars out at a time, so the overall income would be lower otherwise.

Maybe I should make a silencer for it!

That does seem ridiculously loud - is it actually necessary?

when would it ever be necessary to have a loud car? It's just the way it is.

Good point. I did one there last year which wasn't tested. It's a charmingly informal routine there - if it's too loud someone probably just wanders round from the nearest village and politely asks them to turn the noise down for a bit.

What was this measured on and how were you measuring it? Static/drive-by? What piece of equipment was it measured on - an official MOT spec db meter or a cheapo from ebay?

Your best bet is to go to your nearest track when they have a trackday and just get it measured in the same way they measure cars for a trackday. It won't cost anything.

I had it measured at goodwood a couple of years ago, just at a regular track day.

I would get it measured again. My Caterham R500 gets 96db in static tests, and it is a fairly noisey car. 110db is 8 times louder than 96db because of the log scale, I find that pretty much impossible to believe!

Very possible....

My Ford is 101db stock, 105db with a sport exhaust and 118db with a more sporty exhaust. All measured properly.

And you could then put some racing headers, remove cats etc... would be even louder....

Well of course, I just mean what do you gain from having it so loud? As you clearly lose out on doing something you would like to do.

Surely there is a reasonably quiet exhaust available?

Aside from the hooliganistic anti-social side of things, not much. It'sbhow the car came. I could buy another exhaust but thats not exactly cheap.

Try the bolt on silencers they work really well.

I'm over in Camberley and have a set you could try if you like.

I've used them on both the Cerbera and Chimaera and they have sports exhausts.

Not sure on the readings but I've never had a problem with the 105db days smile
