its only a Bank holiday weekend in the UK.
That's the problem! The whole of the UK is over there!I'm going to pop over on the Sunday on the bike for a couple of laps as I'm passing with a few mates on our way to Mugello for the MotoGP

Should i not bother as its my first time, will it be heaving?

I wouldn't say don't go as you'll still enjoy it, but don't expect it to be quiet!
If you want quiet,I went at the end of march half expecting it not to be open,it wasn't...
the place was deathly except for a local rally on in the area but the pistenclausse was something else on the saturday night, three tables busy including us...no one else
will be different bank holiday weekend though

@ tomvcarter: Nope. I think that you are missing the point a little.
With so many people being there the issue is not the over-flowing carparks, not the queueing and not even the amount of traffic on the track, the issue is that the track will be closed very regularly.
More cars = more accidents = more track closures = less time on track. It also means that they'll me massive queues building up for when the track re-opens, meaning more cars on track at once, meaning more chance of accidents and the track being closed again.....etc etc etc

Is it really that bad?
How often do they close the track?
It can be, yes. Typical track closure is anything from 20mins to 1hr+. They close the track whenever anyone has to be recovered or there is debris/fluid on the road. Can be anything from someone simply breaking down to a big off, a collision, fluid leak toppling bikers etc. So you wait 25mins for the track to re-open, meanwhile the queue is getting bigger, especially when it does open and everyone rushes to their cars. Then someone else has an off within the first 20 cars out and it's shut again for another 30mins. Meanwhile you're still sitting in the queue and have hardly moved. How often do they close the track?
In an 8 hour day, it quite possible for it to be closed for half the time, if not longer. Then factor in the weather forcing closures plus it's not really in "their" interests for it to be open all the time. You've bought your tickets already, maybe you'd like to spend a load of cash on massivley overpriced food/drink whilst you're waiting for reopening? Perhaps buy some souvernirs? Go for lunch?
It can of course be open all day with no closures. But, it's bank holiday - loads of UK cars there, lots of people driving it for the fist time. The likelihood for track closures is greatly increased. Get there early (nothing like driving it when there is no traffic in front of you!) or stay there until late.
