996 GT3 RS noise at combe
Discussion
I have asked in the PH porsche forum, so apologies for anyone who has seen the question twice. Asking here as there is mixed opinion there!
Anyone any experience of whether the above car will pass (100db) at combe? It's boggo standard. First time for me with it on track, so no idea of what noise it makes.
Thanks
Bert

The revs are clearly important- the missing piece? The combe webby says 4500 rpm. That's way lower than 3/4 or even 2/3.
Does combe actually test at 4500?
Bert
Yup, 4500. Sound testing guy always takes the piss because my car doesn't have a rev counter. This year he also remarked that my car was so quiet that the wind was affecting the reading. Does combe actually test at 4500?

Combe's meter is quite well known for reading a bit on the high side so if people have been getting 100ish db's at other circuits I could see it not passing at Combe.
They won't just let you on either, they'll point you in the direction of Merlin Motorsports for a nice silencer to bolt on the end of your exhaust(s).

Ive no idea what the RS produces noise wise but I was out on Coombe's track last week with a 58 plate Turbo model and that obviously passed noise as it was'nt sporting one of Merlins £50 "mufflers" altho I did see a cerbera out there that had been fleeced for 2 of them, one for each tailpipe.

If you have trouble, just speak to Adrian (he will likely be the chief steward) and he will get you on.
Keith Flint and I were both out (he has an identical 996 RS to mine) with no problems last year.
I failed the first noise test in my Evo there because it was banging off the launch control at 4k (which I didn't even realise I had until that moment). The tester realised that I was fairly devastated so told me to go for a drive and heat up the mufflers. He let me test again and this time I didn't let it hit the limiter and all was well. A very nice man Keith Flint and I were both out (he has an identical 996 RS to mine) with no problems last year.
just came back from brands and was chatting to a guy with an RS and he said he never has issues and has had his for 5 years as a track car!
Heres a question.....996 GT3 RS or 996 Mark II GT3 with manthey suspension, manthey forged magnesium wheels, RS fin, cup spoiler, RS brake cooloing......which is better?...
