Track (car) advice
Discussion
All,
I went on a Caterham drift day recently and loved (although was terrible!) it so much that I have decided to get rid of the 911 and get a cheap runabout and a track car that I can track (?race in trackday trophy) and drift.
So.... Do any of you know how easily I can insure two cars on one policy? Do any of you have any pointers in terms of companies?
Does altering a car in terms of roll cage etc push the premium up significantly?
Can I run an e36 M3 on smaller rear wheels (from a lesser model) and therefore save money on tires?
Thank you in advance!

Well yes, a Caterham would be perfect except for the fact that I just do not fit in them. I am 6'6" and 19 stone. That is one of the reasons that I could not drift one properly at the weekend. I couldn't get it so that the wheel was far enough away from my knees to allow my hands to pass without catching them.
This also rules out Tigers and the like, I'm afraid.
I think that a CSR may just about be big enough, but they are mega bucks....

Run the same size rubber all round on a non staggered set up, is the popular thing to do, can swap tyres all round then & I prefer the feel, I've run a couple of track m3s & done this to both, can use 328 sport wheels, or non staggered early m3 rims, or many of the various replicas, I've also run Dymags & BBS RC- pick of the bunch v light.Talk to Rex re BMW M3

Car goes well is well set up had loads spent, Video of it at Odiham can be seen here.

Thank you, that does look like a good car. However, a decent e36 M3 should be £6000 now, since they really are getting on a bit. In fact, there is a GT for £5000 in PH classifieds currently. Add in 4pot AP brakes, coilovers, cage and it would rise to £10K. Which is what Rex is asking for his. I do not mean to cause offence, but it seems a trifle overpriced, does it not? minerva said:

Its lovely, but considering the bloke who built it on NL sold it for £6.5k, he's asking quite a lot lol ...
And since it has had that again spent on it.Look you can look and say that M3 as to expensive or you can contact the guy and find out for sure, as mentioned he accepts he is asking a lot but it is probably one of the most balanced cars you will find.
Or you could buy a half sorted car for £5k and spend another £7-8 K getting it to reach this level.
The car is not mine and I have nothing to gain by recommending it, I just know how good it is.
There's also mine with many less miles, far fewer years, it has APs front and rear, and 6 month old PSS9 Clubsport suspension. Only £2000 less than Rex's car!

Sub 6k I thought.Was/is waay over priced at 10k is why is been for sale for so long.
Interested why he binned the BCs for the pss9s, I've run both, BCs are a fraction of the price & I doubt will last as long but I thought were just as good on track & even pss9s are too soft as standard for hardcore tracking really.
All,
Thank you very much for all the replies. Especially this one:

I had to google nearly everything in that!
I am off to look at a couple this weekend. Does anyone know a link to the build thread on northloop. I cannot find it...
