Best Lap Timer/Camcorder
Discussion
So an new year....so a few things to purchase before race season/ track days.
Whats the best value lap timer on the market at the moment? Or what is everyone using?
Im assuming beacons are all standard at most circuits?
Also as above best value easy to install camcorder to attach to a rollcage?
Opinions would be appreciated!
Cheers!

I'll start by reminding you that timing is not allowed on trackdays...........
A lot of racers are now using V-box or similar. A couple of bullet cameras, GPS, full logging and timing with splits etc and can be wired into throttle etc. Starts around £1k.
The cheap option for timing is an app for a smartphone with GPS and for budget cameras there is a thread somewhere on here for very cheap ebay kit that gives decent results.
HTH.

Angus Dawe in everybody banned me so I set up my own trackday company shocker!
Looks good should be able to make use of a few of those.
Will there be a don't overtake Angus on a hot lap rule? Dont want to get in trouble
Hmmm, note to self

Avoid smartarse Elliot for instruction duties...

Whilst the vbox gear is good, there are some cheaper options:
EzTrackData is free software that is allowed for track days (no lap times displayed whilst recording). You can also use video from a standard camcorder. www.eztrackdata.com

Was in GPR a couple of months ago, and chap there was showing me a new bit of kit that did GPS lap timing - smaller than a fag packet, battery powered, and apparently fine by TDOs (due to lack of instant recall). Was all of £140 and he reeled off an impressive list of teams that had bought them for testing.
Software that came with it looked quite good, letting you set your own sectors, dissect corners etc.
Obviously didn't integrate with on-board vehicle systems and no way of being able to see whether you were slow 1)because you were out of shape; or 2) due to traffic.

If anyone is interested I've just launched a new 'Predictive Lap Timer' product on KickStarter:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1706405352/de...
This logs the GPS data to SD and also displays a real-time Delta Time, lap count, race time etc.
Let me know what you think?
