Which is safer - Oulton Park or Anglesey ?
Discussion
I'm looking at booking a trackday at the end of the month, and the choice is Anglesey or Oulton Park. I'm quite a novice and am worried about spinning off in the p1ssing rain and trashing the car. I've done Oulton Park a couple of times before so know the circuit quite well, plus I'm only 40 mins from Oulton Park, but 3 hrs from Anglesey. What's the run-off like at Anglesey?
Which would be better?
cheers

both great circuits,if your worried about trashing your car then do an airport day or bedford both with nothing much to hit, until you have gained some confidence, failing that go to oulton as its nearer to get your wreck trailered back (only kidding) enjoy yourself but drive within your limits, and increase as you get more experience.

Cheers. I did want to do Bedford, but I have a very specific date available - wife and kids are away for the weekend, so it's Anglesey or Oulton.Looks like Oulton is winning.

By comparison, Anglesey is a much safer circuit than Oulton Park, should something untoward happen. The grip levels are far greater in wet conditions, and the barriers are further back giving more run off area, with no major gravel traps to snare you!! .... again eliminating "gravel rash" damage!Which would be better?

Assuming you were to do either the GP or Coastal circuit, be careful when you join the pit straight, ... the pit wall seems to have a strange magnetic effect!
One thing that puzzles me is how it can take you 3 hours to get to Anglesey, and Oulton 40 minutes. The journey from Oulton to Anglesey only takes just over an hour, so if you went to Oulton & continued to Anglesey, you jouney would take no more than 1 & 3/4 hours. From Manchester Airport to Anglesey circuit takes no more than 1hr 35 minutes even in moderate traffic! Distance from Manchester Airport, approximately 112 miles.
Hope this helps, Howard
Totally agree with Howard's comments on the circuits and if you have done Oulton a couple of times then it's probably time to try a difference circuit out for size so I'd say give Anglesey a try. Well worth getting some instruction at whichever one you go to - you'll end up faster and more likely to stay on the black stuff that way!
You won't make Oulton to Anglesey in just over an hour, Autoroute shows 1.58 and 92 miles but a lot of that time is getting up the smaller roads, once you are on the M56 and A55 it's an easy run.

I would say that Anglesey is a lot safer if you are concerned about spinning off. The run off is quite a bit more in most parts of Anglesey. I've done days at both circuits & don't recall anyone doing any serious damage at Anglesey, Oulton however I've seen a fair bit of badly bent metal.
Anglesey also has fantastic views on a clear day!

Me, Mrs scho and a mate all cut our teeth at trac mon.
We all had fairly big spins with no damage, seems to be really well designed with plenty of run off.
As said the only slightly sketch bit is the left hander onto the pit straight, esp after the corkscrew if it's the coastal circuit!
Also very well suited to the mx5!
Can't wait to get back over there when the weather sorts itself out

Anglessey is safer as said before but still an enjoyable and intersting circuit whether it be the coastal or national circuit, corkscrew section is a blast!
However, Oulton has to be my all time favourite and consider it as very challenging and rewarding when driven hard!
National circuit doesn't include the corkscrew, only the Coastal & GP.However, Oulton has to be my all time favourite and consider it as very challenging and rewarding when driven hard!

Based on the fact that Oulton is near Manchester & Liverpool, home of some right 'orrible norvern monkeez (
), I would say Anglesey is safer. Especially as the North Wales Police take so much interest in fast cars...
God Rot Brunstrom, the git.

this is what happens at Anglesey when you meet the pit wall!

That was exactly the point I tried to make about the pit wall! I was there that day, and infact the driver had discussed having a session of instruction, but wanted to leave it until later in the day, when he was more familiar with the circuit. That accident happened soon after the sighting laps had finished, he had bought the car only weeks before, and paid a lot for it!! ...... Neither was it insured!

I never said it did, merely the fact that it was a blast to drive, you must have too much spare time on your hands!!
