Yep, I'm going. Get your name on the list! Let's hope the weather is in our favour too, I've booked a garage just in case.

Nice video, not sure about the last minute driving away from the track though! wink

I was there in the Red 306 Rallye. I have been looking for amature photos and videos as I wasn't for forking out for the professional ones taken on the day. They all seemed to be taken on the sighting laps!

That has to be the worst track day I've ever done by quite some margin.

Too many cars and LOTS of queueing
Lots of inept/dangerous driving leading to a massive amount of red flag time
Oi/coolant dropped by a number of cars all over the place

Any why did we have to exit the track and then go all the way to the end of the pit lane, only to end up in a big traffic jam. Bloody stupid. Don't know whether that was MSV's or Javelin's fault but it's the first time I've seen it at Oulton - normally it's problem free.

First trackday I've done with Javelin but wasn't impressed with them at all - they seemed totally disorganised and even signing on was hard work.

Personally I think they should have started noise testing at 7:30 to 8:30 and then done the rest before/during the sighting laps. The way it was done was stupid with 3 cars queuing for one spot, while the track was already open.

There seemed to be a massive difference in talent and quite a few chavs/wkers there on the day. There was a lot of people driving quickly/erratically around the paddock, bouncing cars off limiters and sure I smelt someone smoking weed....

Saying that I managed 50 laps on track during the day and would have done more, but as you said due to all the stoppages had to keep coming in when it was red flagged. I only really had issue with one other driver on the day, who was known to the marshells when I spoke to them.

A few of the faster cars hassled me a little on a couple of the corners, I can live with that even if there is no need to be 1m from my bumper, I got out of peoples way as quickly and safely as I could and indicated to show where and what I was doing.

I do wonder why people bring what are full on race cars to track days then wonder why they spend a lot of time stuck behind other cars.

Regarding the noise testing it can't be done till 9 am due to the noise curfew rules.

Simple explaination then!

It was at Cadwell park where they noise tested all morning without a problem.

There's never usually a problem at Oulton. Normally, noise testing is done as cars join the queue for the sighting laps. No effort, no fuss.

Unless I misunderstood (and I'm not the only one who thought this), in the briefing they said that noise testing would be done at the end of the sighting laps. I never saw anything and spoke to one of the "organisers" who said it would be done prior to joining the circuit when it opened for real. In the end I didn't get tested at all!

Totally agree - there were a lot of chavs there.

I never got to complete a full "session" all day as there was a red flag within 10-15 mins every time I went out.

As above, worst trackday EVER! way tooo many cars, not enough talent! Nothing wront with slower cars but it becomes a hazard when they dont move over and cars are closing up behind you.

Almost went straight on into the first corner as one of the Subaru's dumped its oil down there, was forced to take the corner sideways! only to see a flag after the spill, i suppose marhsalls didnt know where the spill had started from!

Evening all,

I was there too in the black Skoda Fabia vRS.

I had not been to Oulton before, as living down in Torbay is a massive trek to get anywhere! I was disappointed that there were so many red flags out, never had so many track closures as that before. Some people need to realise that its a track day, not a race series. They also need to take a look at their driving, especially being able to assess their own limits, rather then plain sailing straight through them.

Berger - Good to chat to you, the Pug was going well! Good few laps when we were out. The Iron stove under my bonnet certainly doesn't help me in the corners. It did however get me from home in Devon, to the track, and then round the track all day on one tank haha.
I also have a photo of me which I purchased, and you are close behind, its quite a good one. You are more than welcome for me to email you the picture, or I can put it in here?

Simon.

Hi Simon,

I remember you on track you car was quite nippy, thanks for getting out of the way quicky, trouble is if quicker cars get held up its like a train behind them, thats when things go wrong.

75 cars for oulton is just far too many.

Feel free to put more pics if you have them.

Erm, natural progression? Why do people move from hot hatches to supercars throughout their road driving lives?
Someones car has no bearing on what I think of them. If they drive like a tit, they're a tit. Complain to the powers that be. No-one should be hassling someone else through bends but, unfortunately it does happen. The offenders shouldn't whinge though, unless someone in front is refusing to budge on the next straight.

Not having a go. I just hear that a lot.
It's like a divide that's developing at trackdays, even though the guys with race/ex-race cars more than likely cut their teeth in hot hatches, fast road cars, etc.

Totally agree with your other points though, although I wasn't at this event. The chavs kill everything. Look at the Lemans 24hr (campsite-wise not track, obviously).

For the record, I've used Javelin before, at Cadwell and whilst it was a busy day, it was well run. 4-5 car queues at worst. The day you guys had sounds more than a bit pants though.

ETA - Just seen you drive a 306 Berger. My last track car was a 306GTi6. Great fun. They steer from the rear just right amount, at speed, don't they?!

The Rallye is great fun, could do with a tiny bit more power but the chassis, brakes etc just work together so well as a standard package. I dont want to start upgrading things as once I have done one part another will become the weak link.

With regards to my comments about the quicker cars, I just felt some driving was a bit too aggressive but no harm done! I can imagine they might have been getting fustrated from others not using their mirrors so just adopted that approach with everyone. I know there were a few cars that seemed either oblivious or werent keen to let me past.

Simon, im happy for you to post the picture up, or you can email it to me, my address is karl@rcbits.co.uk

Wish I had only used a full tank of fuel, must have been close to single figure mpg as it certainly drank a lot of sul!
