Bike trackday at brands hatch
Discussion
Hi,
I'm looking at doing my first trackday on my bike in march, only thing getting me is that they are sessioned, do they do open pit lane for bikes?... still the available sessioned days you get 3 different sessions, am i right in saying it's 20mins/session and for my near enough 100quid ill see just about a hour on track?

Never seen an OPL bike trackday especially not at Brands. Riders get tired and dehydrated real quick and there is a HUUUUGE difference in pace ability and attitude between novice and advanced groups. So you tend to get 3 groups 20min or so each an hour so in the day you get from 9 to 1 =4 sessions then 2-5 3 sessions so a total of 2 hrs 20 min on track with a group of similar ability to you .
Many have had enough by the end of the day and last sessions tend to be sparse so it must be enough track time?
It great fun but build up slowly remember most accidents are cold tyre related either first session or 2 or last of the day as the trac starts to chill.
have fun

did 4 bike track days there last year and as above really, you get plenty of time and if your lucky there will be space in the more advanced groups to move up. I Found the novice far to slow so fortunatly i was able to move up a group on my first time out there which was handy
I ended up missing the last session on a couple ocasions, was too tired and you get people really trying to go fast as its the last session of the day.
Also as per any track day always worth getting some tuition, even when i thought i was going as fast as i could the instructors where still abele to fly up the inside of me lol

Get over to the Biker Banter forum as you're more likely to see discussions about track-days there and there's a great wiki on bike track days too. Having done a couple myself now, there's a big enough speed differential between the riders in the Novice groups, let alone mixing it up with the advanced boys.
A lot of the track-day organisers do novice-only days which might be a good place to start. As already mentioned, an instructor is invaluable too, but if you really want to learn, come and join us at the California Superbike School in April.
