I have read the sticky above, but am just wondering, for those who have been, what checks are made for insurance. Their terms and conditions state that non-German cars must carry insurance papers. As many others have found, this is quite difficult to obtain. But do they check?

I've been asked if I had them in the car, but they didn't actually look at them.

Are you asking because you don't have insurance cover for the Ring?

Does anyone from the UK have cover for tourist days anymore?

(Aside from the bloke on the thread about this who says he does, but refuses to disclose which mythical company covers him, that is)

Well I am working on it but currently my insurers are trying to swerve it. It was just an interesting point really, that so many people go there with no cover whatsoever (knowingly or otherwise) but no-one seems to say 'I went but I was turned away for not having insurance' even though they stipulate insurance papers are required on their website.

I assume this is because they're not so bothered as to whether your insurance is valid or not, just that you have it, If it's valid, great! Any pay outs will be covered by your insurance co. If it's not valid, that's fine too! Any pay outs will be covered, and your insurance company will get the cost from you.

The ring organisers won't lose.

I stand to be corrected but aren't we supposed to carry insurance & registration docs in car when over in some foreign Johnny land anyway? The Ring is a public road albeit a 1 way toll road so same rules would apply no?

They don't check. The reason they say it is that the police could turn up and do a spot check, even though they never would, but they need to reinforce the "it's a road" thing at all times, to get round the substantially higher safety standards they'd need for running as a race track all the time.

Ive tried many companies on many occasions, none of which would even entertain the idea, and every broker ive tried have called back a day or two later and basically say that none of their insurers want to know.

I think the TF is dead for most(almost all) Brits with a sense of responsibility. There is far too much to loose from an "off" so It looks like a Trackday or nothing. frown

Depressing I know!

All very legal and confusing!! So I've booked a private trackday later this year, limited to 100 cars. Can I get insurance for this and if so does anyone know which companys. I accept it maybe 3rd party only. Cheers.

Track day insurance won't cover 3rd party costs - because there aren't any.

Everyone takes care of their own damage, regardless of blame, and the organisers are insured against damage to the circuit.

Track insurance covers your own car only.

Cheers guys. Before I do anything I'll contact Circut Days, but I think I'll get some insurance just to be on the safe side. Tbh I'll probably drive like miss Daisy. Going to get some more days in the UK before I go.

How much is the car worth? - it's very rare that anyone stacks a car on track days, so it may well not be worth the cost.

You'll be looking at circa 10% of the value of the car for 1 day's cover - and the excess is likely to be north of a grand.

I've never bothered - but then I've never tracked anything worth over £2k.

are you doing the n700?
Yes he is, you'll both love it smile

I did the N700/DN2 event last year and used MORIS for my additional trackday cover, I paid £101.28 for my 944 S2

Yeah I'm doing the n700. My cars 10 reg mx5 so I guess it's worth about 15k. I've done track days before in a 56 plate Elise and a 2 year old Yam Fazer and didn't bother with the insurance, but they were on short circuts in the UK. If you guys have done this before let me know your thoughts.
