Mirrored / tinted visors
Discussion
Quick question fellow trackdayers that I should know the answer to but somehow don't.
Are there restrictions on visors at trackdays? Just on the point of ordering a mirrored visor when I thought about possible restrictions.
I shall be sitting on the idiot step pending you collective sage advice.

We don't restrict but there's something pinging in the back of my mind about someone being sent off at Snetterton for having a blacked out one. I tale the view that if a chap's dim enough to try and drive in something he can't see out of he probably won't make it to the circuit anyway.

Hi Melindi
Well that's the same as me. There is something somewhere that is making me question it.
I was going to get a black or mirrored visor to save changing to sunglasses when the sun is out. If it's questionable though I'll save myself £30.
Mind you, if someone was so dim they were wearing one when it was anything other than very bright, they would deserve to go home.
I blame The Stig! lol

The following is from the MSV regs for last year so it gives them the option to refuse whta they like...
Crash Helmets
Cars: All Participants must wear a suitable, correctly fitted and securely fastened crash helmet. For open
top vehicles a full face helmet is required. If MSV is of the view that a Participant’s crash helmet is not
suitable, it may require the Participant to hire a helmet from MSV at the then standard hire rate or, if no
suitable helmet is available, exclude the Participant from any circuit activity.
Bikes: All Participants must wear a suitable, correctly fitted and securely fastened full face crash helmet,
which must comply with current ACU/FIM standards.

I have a black visor. I've probably done about 80 track days with loads of different TDOs
and nobody has ever questioned it.
I'm in a tin top car and I just pull the black visor down a little bit on the odd occasion
at the start and/or the end of the day when the UK sun is out (and low in the sky).

I wear a full face Simpson with Iridium (blue blocker) visor and never had any trouble from TDO, Nurburgring or the BIB (even one night time where I lost track of time and ended driving in it)
Many lids come standard with a plain visor and the additional upgrade visor is popped in the bag also. Normally just two scrwews or lock tabs to swap.
I would go for a smoked visor, but would be very surprised if you ever got any trouble with anything remotely tinted or mirrored unless on a motorbike on public highway

MSA regulations for racing specify that a visor must be "neutral density" i.e. it must not alter the colour of what you see - this normally means a grey tint. I have been told that this is so that you can tell what flag is being waved at you! I've never seen a trackday organiser stipulate anything about visors but I am sure if you comply with the MSA regs then you will definitly be OK.
Having said all this, probably about 1/2 the scrutineers I have met have given me a hard time about my tinted visor.
