track day trailer, winch ?
Discussion
as my track car isn't taxed, insured etc, am thinking of buying instead of continually hiring a trailer, I've seen two on ebay that catch my eye at the moment. Question is this..
Is a winch essential, at some point the car is going to break, can you get the car onto the trailer without a winch, it is an e30, so i don't think pushing up the ramps is an option, although 4 blokes might be able to ?

Buy a cheap manual winch, they aint that expensive or difficult to fit. first time it wont start or you rip a wheel off and it wont roll you'll wish you had one. I had probs getting my caterham in my shuttle with it jammed on full lock after going off at oulton and that was with the help of the recovery guys hi-ab
I wouldn't do without a winch as a backup - I have a leccy one like this:

Does great for my westfield, don't know how well it'll do against something heavier.

Would one person on a manual winch be able to drag a car with jammed steering or a wheel ripped off? I wouldn't have thought so. Not being arsey, just interested really.
Yes, trolly jack under chassis or wishbone on the damage side, done it several times. May have to jack up car & get block under it to allow jack to be placed & may have to do it several times. As an example, my truck with power winch was elsewhere so winched this bugger on a trailer manually in just that way.

Hi Iggy, yep I've moved broken cars around on trolley jacks before. I've always just thought 4 or 5 people can do what a winch can do. Although it's more hassle.
Having said that, I had no idea those electric ones were so inexpensive, so I think I should get one for this year.
Cheers, Mark.

Hi Guys
For those with non road legal cars, how do you go about testing stuff, bedding in news brake pads etc etc?
bruntingthorpe, £175 for 4 hrs. as long as your car is reasonably well silenced you can run engines in, bed brakes, bed tyres in etc. done it a few times, assuming we can book this yr will be going again.
