Just got back from Norfolk, and my first real track day (been to several things using other peoples cars, this is the first full day in my own).

Had a great day, but very knackered now (I live 150 miles away in Brighton, so a fairly long days driving). I was surprised at the level of machinery there, I was in the slowest car (stock mk1 mx5, silver if you saw me) by quite some way - there was a huge range of very high end machinery - a pair of 456s, I think 3 Porsche GT3s (including an RS), a v8 vantage race car.. I was expecting more hot hatches and the like - the evening session appeared to be closer to what I was expecting

so - spent a lot of time on the right side of the track with my indicator on, but didn't really mind. I'm sure its far more frustrating if you're in one of the properly quick cars and you're stuck behind someone like me for a series of corners smile both my front tyres got fried but I took a pair with me, other than that the car was faultless. More than can be said for a lot of cars there - my mates scooby dropped its clutch, and another friends mk1 golf lost its gearbox.

Did anyone else go?

I came along to spectate around 3pm. A friend-of-a-friend was driving the (racing) Aston Vantage and the dayglo yellow Exige. Nice hour or so viewing.

My 360M was parked over near the bogs/showers! biggrin

Was a good day.. i remember seeing your car too. Agree, there some very quick cars there today.

I was trundling around in the pink Chevy Camaro..

Anyone got any pics ? always see loads of cameras out at trackdays and always wonder what happens to these mystical photos..

Yep, I saw you both, at least the rain held off for you.

How did you find the new layout? Must give it a try sometime.

I was there in the Black TVR Wedge (also with my indicator on a lot!), I definitely saw your '5 around.

Loved the track, never tried the old layout though so can't compare. Did get a bit damp on the way back though.

I was there in the track club Elise. I managed to do a last minute fix for a customer who had mistakenly booked the 29th April instead of today! They return to the US on Thursday so a real problem! The easy option would have been to refund money and call off. Many thanks to one of my regular customers for giving us his Tracktime and to track club for supplying the Elise last minute (booked 6pm yesterday!)

We were lucky with the weather as not long after joining the A 11 it was raining.

Apologies to OP for the late overtake into turn 4 at about 4.30. Never had someone beep their horn at me on track before!

You're front tyres were hilarious to watch earlier in the day! going through Hamilton (turn 5) your left front looked like it was shaped like a 50p piece as it spun almost completely airborne. Right front not as bad but not exactly round! Your steering wheel must have been a blur at anything over 60mph!

I was there, but unfortunately only had a few laps in my Carlton before a combination of problems forced me to retire.. made it home tho!
Thanks to chevy-stu & haircutmike for the passenger laps, made what would have been a disappiontment into a good day. 2 completely different cars but both very rapid!

Nice to meet you guys and it was a great day, I really enjoyed myself and really liked the new layout.

My car was going really well untill MSV asked us to keep it inbetween the white lines.
I enthusiastically slide 2 wheels of the bend before the back straight, off the concrete edging and as the car tried to climb back up the kerb it fooked the front wheel!
I blame the pesky Porsche I was trying to stay in front of!!!

All in all a fantastic day.

Those kerbs are pretty sharp on the outer edge. The driver I was with last week cut his outer tyres on the exit kerb of turn 3. He didn't go off the track but hit the kerb heavily loaded so the outer edge of the tyre dropped off. It cut the tyres to the depth of the tread blocks.

An equivalent cut on a slick would have made it unusable.

good to see all of you there, I think I remember all of your cars. What happened to the carlton? Looked pretty smokey at the start but didn't see it at all after that.

Ben - no worries on the overtake - I thought you'd aborted so went to go for the apex and suddenly saw you, just took me by surprise! The tyre was pretty funny - I thought I just had a balancing issue, which as they were fairly low on tread I wasn't too worried about (planned to change them after the day anyway). Turned out the front right had a *huge* bulge in the tread - the left 1/2 of about a 5" section of the tyre was a good 1-2" higher than the rest of the tyre. It looked a bit like this http://www.flickr.com/photos/eloisemason/273257791... but worse. The other one I flatspotted under braking. Swapped them for a pair of proxies for my last session and the difference was amazing - so much more grip at the front end, plus the steering wheel did't wobble as much smile

not found any photos yet. apparently these 2 places have had photos of previous days, so might be worth checking later

I was in the 430 Scuderia.

Great day out, the new layout is fantastic, booked for next month already.
