Hi all,

I'm doing my first track day on Saturday over at Llandow and in my 350z; I've decided that whilst it's on a knock for knock basis it's still worth getting insurance but my regular insurar won't cover track days.

My best quote so far is from REIS for £171 which seems steep and I just wondered if anyone had any suggestoins as to other companies I could try before I take the plunge ? FYI I've left a message with CCI and Moris don't seem to be offering cover at the minute.

Thanks in advance !
Charlie

excess is quite high usually, mine is about £1500, but then it is covering a £15k car so is worth it if it gets written off.

i could have saved a fortune in track day cover so far but you never know when you might need it as track cover does not cover 3rd party, so if you get hit by someone else its your loss, (although if i hit someone on track and it was my fault i would cover their excess)

That's going to be a handful at Llandow! - it's a tiny little place.

I've never seen a prang or accident on the days I've done there, so depending on the value of the car and the excess you may want to take the 'risk'.

I'm sure I read somewhere that there's a significantly higher risk of crashing on the way to and from the track than there is of crashing on the track itself.

I agree, accidents very rare on most track days. However, one does spring to mind from Llandow last year when a chap made significant modifications to the front profile of an old red Supra by burying it in the tyres below the bank on the pit straight entry. No-one injurd though.

Care required!

Thanks all for the responses; went with CCI in the end at £135 vs £170 from REIS; not cheap but worth it for the peace of mind.

Llandow was superb and to their credit very well run with no accidents that I saw; drivers were also a good bunch (SE Lotus bods) and I cadged a few passenger laps which was great fun.
