Just booked my first track day, help needed!
Discussion
Hey guys! Just booked my first track day for this thursday at Snetterton in my Citroen C2 GT. Now here's the problem. My brakes have loads of meat on them and have been very good up untill now. I have a spare set of pads as well (lightly used) to get me home as i fully expect to knacker my pads. The thing is though will they even make it through the day? Their standard mintex road pads and i was hoping if i wasn't too harsh on the pads and did stints of say 10 minutes they would last me the day. Any reccomendations, will they be completely fried after 3 laps and i'll find myself having wasted £200
What are your guys thoughts? I will put 5.1 AP Racing fluid in today so that shouldnt be a problem. Is it worth nipping down to merlin motorsport and buying some ducting to give the brakes some extra cooling?
Also what tire pressures should i be running? Their fairly new pirelli p zero's.
Oh and if anyone see's a citroen c2 being driven like its on fire come say hi
All other advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'd be very supprised if you managed to wear a pair of front pads in a single day.
on brembo disc's and pads my lard arse of a Fiat would last about 6 months with 1 or 2 track days included, the disc's warped before the pads completely wore out.
usually pad wear isnt even noticable IMO, you will be more likely to warp the disc's than wear the pad material.

Well arn't you guys full of good news
Thats just what i wanted to hear! Went and bought some super expensive ducting anyway but having a hell of a job fitting it. Will strip out any unessecary weight and bleed the brakes too, also going to remove the front arch liners to help get some more air to the brakes, very excited
But as before, what tire pressures should i be looking at? Not too bothered about warped discs as thats more of a nuisance than a track day ender.
Thanks for the help guys!

If you are going to do more days, uprated pads would probably be a good idea. You will certainly enjoy the day more. There is nothing worse than feling the brake pedal sink to the floor with a corner looming!
Perhaps try mintex 1144 or ferodo ds2500 next time and change fluid to motul600 or similar. This will make a worthwhile difference at relatively little cost.

Your brakes will be fine, with stock pads you might get a little fade after 20 minutes or so but just give it 10 minute break and then get back out there. This is a fairly normal driving pattern for open Pit days. The C2 is a light car so cant see it being hard on brakes, I have taken several road cars with stock brakes on track and never really had any significant problems (changing the brake fluid recently was a good idea though and will help). If you intend to do more track days then up rated pads might be a good future upgrade but I would guess these pads will go about 3 or 4 days before they are used up anyway.
Set your tyres to stock road pressures when they are cold. This will be an adequate starting point you can then fine tune later if you really want.
Anyway I will see you there on thursday I have a light blue Boxster and my brother in law who I am going with has red honda engined Elise feel free to come over and say hi.

Awesome day and absolutely loved it! Brakes had had it by the end of the day with me managing to outbrake myself into the last corner as the pedal went to the floor! Discs, heavily gorged, im guessing the pads have mullered themselves and the clutch has started juddering (blame my mate having a go and riding my clutch like a b*tch!). Front tires also rather worn. Ah well just an excuse to go shopping for:
Ferodo DS2500's
Decent front discs (reccomendations?)
New uprated clutch
Lighten flywheel (Would be rude not to while i've got the gbox off!)
Trackday rubber if i can raise some extra funds.
I can see this getting expensive!
