As a track day novice, I'm currently working on our BMW. There's four of us doing it and I'd like to ask how it works. When you pay for a trackday, are you entering the car or the driver. For example if all four of us go, do we need to pay the entrance fee four times. (Which could be expensive). If the car is entered, can we swap and change the drivers as we please (assuming we have all registered)

Most TDOs charge a little more for a second driver.

I can see every reason for doing that on an Open Pitlane day
but when a day is sessioned I fail to see the justification.

You normally register the car and the main driver at the normal rate and then you can add subsequant drivers at a reduced rate. Car gets one number to identify it on track.

Think thats how it works.

In my experience the TDOs I've used only allow you to sign on one extra driver. It's also worth remembering that just like a driver needs a good break between sessions, so does the car. Lots of fresh drivers could mean that the car doesn't get enough rest.

With us ( Apex Trackdays), any additional drivers are free. It is only one car at the end of the day. If all 4 drivers use the car all day it may not last the whole day...unless it has been built for endurance racing, in that case you have a cheap track day!!

Thanks for that. Your website states that the second driver is free. Can I just confirm any additional drivers are also free. If so, I'll be booking through you for sure.

On my last outing I took a couple of mates for £1 extra each.

More like £25 per extra driver normally.

With a bit of searching on the Apex site, there's only two drivers allowed on open pit lane days. That screws us up, because there will be four of us. Bugger!

The TDO I use for OPL trackdays charges differently depending on the time of year; summer is £25 per extra driver and winter £15. If the trackday is sessioned then each session is separate anyway so it makes no difference whether the car has the same driver or a different one.

3 of us share the Radical. We will only do OPL days and we generally have to pay for the 3rd driver, and sometimes the 2nd.

As the blessed thing sits in the garage being fixed for most of the day it copes pretty well. Being 3 chaps of a certain age and waist, we tend to wear out quicker.

Having said that, some of the cars we see around with multi drivers are pretty well knackered at the end of a day. I would have said that 4 was too many unless you are very careful and cautious. If you go to a sessioned day with 4 drivers, you will get very little track time each....probably.

Try Circuit Days as they allow 3 extra drivers at no charge. Been to 3 of their days and they have always been excellent, and with plenty of track time.

You can bring 4 drivers to any Apex Trackday event. Not a problem. If you pre-book, I will send you 4 drivers wristbands or if you turn up on the day, I will be there so no problem. If you want written confirmation before you come to the event, email me and I will be happy to do do that. Or print this page!

Cheers for that. We should be ready to go in July, so I'll give you a shout then.
