Folks I been sent some word documents by my employer, who has asked me to sign them and email them back. How do I do that? Scan in an image of my signature and dump it in the word file? Print the documents off, sign it, scan it back in and send it as a JPEG? Seems like a lot of hassle!

Ah - electronic documentation - so much easier than paper.

I wouldn't email something with my signature, the point of signing it is to confirm you have received and agree with something. Once its got a printed signature on then anyone can make changes and reproduce it with your signature still on it.

Its my understanding that its all scanned back into a system anyway, which is why black ink must be used etc.

Print it, sign it, scan it and send a PDF back.

What a palaver - although I get clients to do it sometimes out of necessity.

Alternatively, print it off, sign it - and post it back the old fashioned way.

2 different methods generally in use.

Sign paperwork, have it scanned in and stored by your Document Control dept/system. Store both scanned PDF and original Word.

Use an electronic pad and stylus to record a copy of your digital sig. This saved onto a secure part of your hd or server. To "sign" a document, you access the area, hit the funky button and put your "sig" into the correct area. Save. Job jobbed.
