Anyone done it/doing it?
Am considering a couple of jobs out there and just wondered what the real deal is.
On the plus side I can see:
Good tax-free salary.
Better weather.
Good standard of living.
Clean, modern city.
Complete culture shift.
On the down side I can see:
I'd be leaving everyone behind. (Lady Crossflow isn't in a position to join me just yet)
"Quirky" local attitudes and customs.
It's the Middle East (which UAE or not ain't the most stable place in the World right now)
No pubs/snow at Christmas/Goodwood Revival and stuff like that....Englishness.

Try posting the Middle East section, you'll get a much better response there.
Plus, a good search through will reveal about 2-3 of this type of thread every month, most with pretty comprehensive answers. There are also good descriptions of experiences by newcomers to the UAE.
And also some nutters. But we tend to ignore them.
