Recently my Brother has been made redundant from a spread betting co. based in London, IG sport (extrabet) he is 28 and hasn't been the luckiest individual when it comes to employment. He had just had a promotion a few months ago and was working as a trader, unfortunately the company has now ceased trading.

He is a well educated really motivated and I would have thought quite employable.

One month on and he is getting very disheartened. He's so keen to work, he would do anything just to tie him over so he can pay the rent on his flat. (unfortunately just renewed a 6 month rental term on his flat)

So far he has been to numerous employment agencies who he cant even have a sensible chat with, the same response from each one, send us your C.V and we'll put you on our books. (which he has done with no responses)

He has walked in to numerous companies from the street and numerous pubs asking for bar work, still no joy.

Today has really knocked him back as he decided to visit the local Govt Job Centre who said, "We are very sorry sir, we cant talk to you unless you are already claiming job seekers allowance....." WTF!!!!!

He is quite adament he doesn't want to "sign on" but it seems he is being told this is the best thing to do...

Just wondering if anyone has any advice as I just don't know what to advise him? Any agencies who are recommended? Is London not the best place to be for employment at present? Does he just need to be patient? Has anyone got a job going?

Jamie

FFS, tell him to swallow his pride or whatever other ridiculous mental abberation is preventing him from facing up to the fact that he is no different from any other unemployed person and follow the standard procedure. Many firms will only believe the 'unemployed' reason for a gap in the CV if you produce a letter from the DWP with the dates you were claiming on it.

If he is not already registered and wants to stay in the industry then he should register with betting jobs as above. Also suggest Pentasia and Betting Connections (FAO Kay Vella)...Does he HAVE TO stay in London? Lots of betting/gaming jobs are offshore, Malta, Gibraltar, IOM and Alderney are all within 3 hours of UK.

PM me if you like, I know a lot of people in the industry, might be able to help.
