Oh well had the official news today that I along with about 200 others are going to be out of work - headcount reduction
I'm sure plenty of others here have been though it but it's gutting
Yep, nearly 2 years ago now, and it sucks big time. Hopefully, you will have more luck finding a job than i amI'm sure plenty of others here have been though it but it's gutting

On the plus side you won't need to do that horrendous talk any more!
Funnily enough in a quick initial 121 I did mention that jokingly - and yep that whole event is cancelled. Consultations going on - thing is only two full years service with probably 8months contracting there first.
You know that sick feeling you get in the gut that's it - of course I'm hoping I can walk into another job... Nut that may well not happen could be many months many many months before I get more work.
Stress is high and I'm trying to make the best of it in front of the pregnant wife (yep you got it potential double income loss at the exact same time.... )

I was made redundant almost 3 years ago, not nice, but don't let it neg you out.
Get looking around now and be prepared to take anything you can get to keep you in work.
Good luck mate.
Oh I will. Get looking around now and be prepared to take anything you can get to keep you in work.

Thing is in my profession I cannot downgrade salary (role) beyond a certain point as I'd be far more qualified in experiance and qualifications professional qualifications than what would be my line mgr and line mgrs boss.
I'm not shy of graft nor proud I've done six years as a store assistant GDB general dogs body through college and uni. Plus a stint of ahem cleaning filthy toilets.... Vile but I refused to even consider the dole.
OTOH, being made redundant was the best thing that happened to me professionaly.
I had a good few years contracting before taking a perm' job when the market went a bit stale. Was there far longer than I intended and am now back in the contracting market again and loving every minute of it.

True I enjoyed contracting.
The only thing is as good as the rate is you miss out on pension contributions by the company.
May well look at this again.
I contracted for three to four years going from one role and company to the next - office politics what politics that was the good thing. The bad thing was you never got to know the staff properly you were merely transient. So chats about footie scores or whatever never happened.

Just got the same with no contract extension and got a poison chalice of a job in the last 6 months that means no permie job so its a bit gutting but Im glad I dont need to work on that job again.
At the moment Im looking at my business idea that will make money but it takes time, on the plus side 2 people I go drinking with are global heads in the investment banks and they have suggested that I might be able to get a job with them but only on a contracting role so all is not lost.
It seems its not what but who you know... so glad I sorted out my network of people ages ago.

Well having slept on it I'm now feeling far better the kick in the gut is still there but subsiding.
Fact is I know what needs to be done so just do it. ... Simple!!
Contacting a number of recruitment agencies now to start the ball rolling and go from there.
I'm thinking it's a better solution to did somewhere quickly and leave ASAP into a new role rather than be depressed and in wind down mode.
Good luck to others in similar situation

City is busy at the moment if you work around here.
Easy to say but this is the benefits of a contract mindest, things end and you are always open to offers. I'm not saying thats helpful but as you can see there is no such thing as a job for life in any way whatsoever, so it might be best to adapt your thinking to be expecting change more often.

I would start looking now, and dont discount temporary work, especially if it's long term. My problem, is that despite living where i do, south yorkshire where most of the residents don't want to work, they still apply for nearly every job going, and hence i think the figure is 1500 people apply for every vacant position at the minute here
In this situation you phone the office that you have sent your application to, to make sure they have received it. You then ask the person who is doing the recruiting if they have any other information they can give you, so that you can tailor your application to suit further. Then send in your updated application with all the extra bits the recruiter needed to see, and voila, you're at the top of the pile.
(I was made redundant in December 2009, and managed to get 1 interview a week minimum from the week I was told through to March 2010. Even more amazing I was applying for field sales roles - I've done about 3 weeks of field sales in the past, but I managed to bluff my way past the recruiter to the company that had the role)
