Feel like I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place at the moment, so was wondering if anybody here is able to give a few pointers for me or throw some ideas out there


To put it very concisely, I'm currently in a 'management trainee' position at a large national company (loathe to say exactly which company as it never works out well for people! ). I was given the training position pretty soon after joining but progress has tailed off quite abruptly; I've done everything I can do myself but I'm not really getting any help to be taught things that I need to learn, I'm always needed doing something else in a sales assistant capacity... there's another lady at my branch who is the same position as me, and has been for years, so I guess that should be a clue .

The problem is, whilst I have good GCSE's (mostly A's with some B's) I don't have A-levels and financial constraints at home mean that I'm unable to return to college at the moment. Are there any companies who would take me on as I am? Either onto their own training program, straight into a management position or some other option that I might have missed? There is no reason that I should have anything other than an excellent reference, as I have made myself very flexible for my current company (working branches all over the area when it's been needed, at the moment on day number 11 without a day off etc). I don't mind this at all, as long as it's furthering my own career, but it just isn't

You need to have this conversation with your boss. Getting in to management teainee positions usually requires a degree (not always of course). Other option is to work hard, begin a course of learning in support of your aspirations (maybe ask employer to fund/part fund) and work your way up. Good luck!
