Apparently its for a mobile phone shop and lasts until mid-January. So they want busy, seasonal and evening working for 2p above NMW.......Greedy motherfkers....they even want someone who is fully experienced, highly motivated....working to hit targets etc.

I can picture the 'successful' candidates now.......FFS.

Hope they go bust.

Sadly OP retail never pays well and anyway, does meeting the targets mean bonuses are paid thus making the 2p above minimum wage bit not look so bad?

There are no bonuses paid, nor commission.
BTW this is not a job I am applying for, as I am a serial entrepreneur, company director and powerfully built.

I want to know if there are any employers looking for lazy individuals who can't think for themselves and smell of urine. They always seem to want conscientious, hard working people who can think on their feet and bring creativity and zest to the team.

Cant see the problem either, its entry level retail work for 3 months. Its not likely to need some one do anything more then ring up tills and read out the specs of a phone from a screen print. They were hardly gonna offer 35K plus healthcare, company car and pension were they.

Look at it this way, it may only be a few months on minimum wage, but it will show as a plus on your CV when your looking for your next role. ( and I dont mean yourself OP just an in general "you")

Its the lack of commission that I can't get my head around. The type of monkey that will eventually fill this role is unlikely to be target driven, motivated and 'a fully experienced salesperson'. These are just some of the prerequisites of the role advertised....sheesh, who writes this st ?
Why on earth would you want to actively and aggressively up sell and cross sell this companies products ?
What motivation is there to create the need or infer urgency ?
They are planning to give you the boot the second you've processed the January refunds......

I really can't see the issue.

My wifes profession took 2years of night school to achieve the required qualifications. She often needs to bring work home, and does not get paid for this.

She gets minimum wage, so this would be a pay rise for her!

Perhaps that's because minimum wage is so grossly inflated. You could hire a keen shop assistant for a day for £6 here in Thailand.

The point is that wages are so inflated in the UK as to be meaningless because the labour of a good proportion of the people who live here is not worth the price that must be paid for it, and taking the jobs at those wages is not worth it for people with the option of a cushy benefit system.

If the employer pays a st wage, WE are all subsidising the low paid worker via the benefits topping up system.

Who here will shed light on the amounts of Working Tax Credit and Child Tax Credits it is possible to claim ?

And if the employer pays every shop assistant 20GBP an hour we won't end up paying for it? Plumbers and other more skilled workers won't demand similar increases?

Wages are a price like any other, and are influenced by people's willingness to supply labour and people's ability and desire to pay for it.

You can make up numbers all you want, but you can't beat that basic truism, and if you legislate that no-one can be paid less than X then you will either have unemployment of everyone whose wage would otherwise be less than X, or inflation to the point that X is worth the lowest amount anyone is prepared to work for.
