Advice on Security Clearances

I'm an Aircraft Techie ex MOD and hold a SC clearance. I had it renewed for a Civvie contract, and am in the process of getting a new job in the nuclear power station game. How easy is it to transfer it across? Would it be easier to apply for a new?

Slim chance someone may know but worth a shot!

Assuming you are permie, or at least long term contract, dig out the letter confirming dates, and let BNFL worry about it. Make sure you chase up renewal though, when its due.

Cheers. It was renewed in 2009/10. Are they 5 or 10 yr?

SC = 5, BC/CTC = 10. You're sorted for a while.

it depends, my SC has just been renewed for 10 years. Also if you are out of an SC cleared roll for 1 year you lose it & need to reapply

Yep just found that out today. Spoke to HR and they told me I need to reapply after 12 months. The agency did say though that its easier to start a fresh one, less hassle.

Did DVA do your clearance? If so you can call them up & get your vetting reference, thats all any new agency/employer needs to get hold of your clearance from your last place.

err, no, if you have it you have it. Renewing/reapplying, its all the same now, and can be done online, makes no difference. Agency is talking st

I'm not too sure on who did my last vetting. The MOD did my original and that was renewed by Qinetiq. When I left I got a letter from HR stating what clearance level I held and contact details, which I stumbled upon last night. I forwarded this on to the agency, hopefully this will help.

Next on the list is disclosure Scotland!!!
