So I'm just applying around and rejigging my CV to suit each role. I'm 95% of the way there, but a little stuck on this.

Now, what I've put is: I am actively interested in spending time at the gym through weight and cardio training. Secondary to this, I enjoy the occasional game of Golf and Badminton.

What else can go in there to actually add any value to the CV? I want to come across as a good candidate but really can't see a reason for adding this into the CV other than it just being there and taking up space!

Employers, what do you think? Applicants, what do you put in here?

I have not had any hobbies or interests on my CV for about 5 years. If an employer wants to know, they can ask during the interview. It leaves room for more important information too...

Good to hear. It's gone. I have nothing of value to add to it that relates to any of my skills, and getting rid of it drops the CV nicely down to 1 page.

Only put things on there if you think it's going to give you an advantage.

E.g. I do a lot of sailing, so I put down "sailing". As it happens, a few people who have interviewed me have also liked it and I have used it to build rapport.

"Pushing iron" might not have the same effect.

Way too short, unless you are applying for a job as a paperboy

Hobbies, are best if they add something, say voluntary work or high level skills or commitments say in a league or similar, or could provide a bit of interest.

Putting hobbies down is neither wrong nor right. It's a balance and, ideally, should be based upon intel gathered about the organisation your hoping to join, the role you're after and the culture within the organisation.

For example, many FOOTSIE 250s enter teams in to corporate adventure races, many do physical charity work etc. Check up on the company, it's culture and the interests of the Board, ideally during an initial familiarisation visit. If the role is a physical one, then listing some activities that demonstrate you're suitable and able to carry out the role would be seen as an advantage.

Message is, put it in for a reaon and not just because you have space; it needs to create advantage and differentiation. Good luck!
