Contract - Need to have signature witnessed

I need to sign and return a contract ASAP which requires witnessing. I am currently working away and have no option to meet anyone I know to witness it. I don't know anyone where I am and am working 200 miles from home.

Any suggestions?

Your witness should (unless they have given you unusual instructions) be an independent person and does not have to know you, anyone off the street who can understand that they are signing to confirm that they saw you sign your name will be fine.

They will need to watch you sign then sign their own name beneath it and then write their full name (ie. James Edward Jones, not just James Jones) and add their address. Some pre-printed forms ask for Occupation but this is not a legal requirement.

To understand the above a little better the purpose of the witness is to be able to add proof that you signed the document. If you tried to say it wasn't you that signed this then the witness would be contacted and asked to confirm that they saw you sign it. (Shortened version)

Pop into a solicitor - they normally do it for a fiver or a tenner iirc.

Not a chance, try it but i suspect you'll be the first to get an officer who isn;t a mate to do it!

Try the receptionist at the place you are staying. They don;t have to put home address, work one will do. For that matter what's stopping you getting someone where you are working from doing it?

Anyone at your work who has a vaguely professional occupation (accountant is probably most likely) should be alright to do it.
