Government funded training courses when unemployed?

Do they still do them?

And if so what do they do, and how do I get on one?

Anyone know anything about them, there are a few courses and licences I wouldnt mind getting, and if there is a way for the government to pay for them then why not take them? Be a better use of my tax than most other things. Ive had a look around and the whole system seems pretty complicated, and more about working for free than finding a job!

Don't know about the level of qualifications you get now. But from my experience of funded courses with private firms( paid for by Govt funding) ,first thing I'd want to know about is the examining body. I've got what's supposed to be an HNC equivalent course ,which was accepted by one large firm, then years later no one wanted to know.

There was someone over in GG who said that the government paid for his LGV licence. I know of someone else who got his telehandler (reach truck) certificate paid for as well. Things like that would be great, because a lot of things I do anyway at work, but nobody wants to put up the £200 to actually get me the certificate, as opposed to doing it without the paperwork.

I have the misfortune of been with A4E, as part of the back to work programme they have helped me get Maths and English qualifications, and as a bonus for passing they are paying for a fork truck test too.


This as I said is a back to work programme, as I didn't work for 3 years as I was a carerfor my wife, until she had 2 new hips fitted, but I believe anyone out of work long enough to be placed with A4E is eligible, I believe you have to be out of work for 1 year
