Teaching - Has It All Changed?

Not sour grapes.
Shortlisted along with 4 others, and had interview today.
Thought it all went well, and was quite confident in how the interview and lesson went.
However, received the phone call to say I was pipped to the post - by someone who has more "industry experience" - whatever that means
I believe they are a fairly recent NQT, as opposed to being a head of department, and 15 years in the proffesion.

Wondering if teaching is for me now? Are the powers that be looking for ex bankers, IT consultants,Business Anaylists, or City Workers to oversee the classrooms?
Is it all change in what the government are looking in recruiting teachers in openings tha crop up?

Really? You really believe that the evil Government decides who gets the job, and because you went on strike last year, they've got a downer on you?

And perhaps your NQT had some experience that was valid to that Head and Board of Governors that trumps yours?

In these times of cut backs perhaps it's just that NQTs are cheaper than someone who has 15 years in the profession? Or it could be that the successful canditate was just the better person on the day?

Both your comments I accept, and I am a believer in the best candidate should get the post.
It transpired that the post included the teaching of KS3, which I believe someone with under 5 years of experience would very unlikely be able to undertake.

That would be a little like an ordinary teacher with no management points going for/ getting a head teachers position.

Do you mean teach KS3 or be responsible for KS3 in the department? It's fairly normal for an NQT to teach KS3.

There are areas of the country where male primary school teachers are in huge demand. Equally, primary school teachers are generally in high demand due to a birth rate explosion over the past 5 or so years. If you're prepared to travel, there are plenty of opportunities for competent, forward thinking teachers. Good luck!
