Hi
Does any body know the laws on making a apprentice reduntant? My daughter was made reduntant today with a phone call from her boss for lateness!

Are you sure she is being made redundant? Doesn't make any sense.

You can't get made redundant for lateness.

I don't think we have the full picture here?

Hi
It doesn't say anything about redundacy, just two weeks notice to terminate employment either way,our company just went through about 15 redundacies, but couldn't make any apprentices redundant only the ones out of their time.so all very strange.

Does not make sense. If she received "a phone call for latenes" then that is a disciplinary matter. It is not a contract termination due to redundancy. The two are completely different. Do you have the full story, and what has she been given in writing?

I would ignore anything said until you see what formal line the company is pushing, and supported by their written documentation.

How long has she been employed by the company and has she had any disciplinary procedures against her previously?

From what I can work out,her boss had a word monday about poor workmanship and her not getting to the pick up point for the allotted time 715 am, she has to catch a bus to the pick up point so is sometimes between 2 and 8 minutes late as the journey takes 35 mins across town,
But she says was redundacy he said.

under a years service not a lot you can do unless she was discriminated against for gender race etc , they dont even need to follow their own proceedures properly, not good but its how it is .

Unfortunately as she has only worked there since November she has little option but to learn from the experience.

Has she completed her probation?

I've just been through something a bit similar and won.

Has she completed her probation? I.e. Did she have a 3 month probation and had been kept on past it?

I've just been through something a bit similar and won.

confused why doesn't she get an earlier bus then? to be fair if as you state she has had a flippant disregard for her employment then perhaps you're better off letting her use this as a learning experience. if you can't be arsed to get to work on time when redundancies come, don't expect the gaffer to wnat to protect your position....

"Lateness", absence, punctuality can from part of a selection criteria though.

Yes but I still feel we didn't get the full picture.

Apprentices are both cheap and the future of a business so normally aren't made redundant.

It is however irrelevant as she had only worked there since November.
